Keeping them on the plane seems like a bad idea to me. 100 plus degrees and no A/C. Seems like the Marines could have shuttled them to a building or someplace else on the field.

Re: SWA IFE into KNYL for Rapid D and hole in fuselage ceili

Be interesting to see what comes of the investigation on this one, didn't they recently have another airplane try to shed a piece of the cieling?

Isn't Yuma dual use with a passenger terminal and regularly schedule air carrier service?

Yes, regional service. But USMC handles all ARFF services for both military and civil as well as all ATC services.

Understood but I was talking in regards to the handling of the passengers, you'd think they would have been allowed to exit to the terminal.

I think the bird was likely towed to the MC ramp, probably to be hangared and secured.

I do idly wonder if anyone seeing the jet on approach to NYL, was thinking "cool! SWA serves Yuma now!" :)

Re: SWA IFE into KNYL for Rapid D and hole in fuselage ceili

I've seen them come into Miramar as well....I just assumed they were contract flights bringing Marines back home from deployment. We did have a Delta jet come in for an IFE while my buddy was wing GDO, that ended up being pretty exciting for him. Apparently they didn't know how to listen to the ATIS because he got like 10 phone calls from their ops dept trying to confirm the status of the short field gear on 24R.....

Yes, punched out a hole by the rudder. IIRC, they were also fined for not completing NDT on some fuselages. All of which were in about the last 12 mos.

If I lived in Yuma, I'd be looking for a getaway too ;)

Be very, very interesting to see if the 3 are related (2 blowouts and missed NDT inspections).

300 flights that the -300's fly... interesting. If it had been flight 810, that would have been creepy...

I used to see their airplanes on the ramp over there all the time back in the day. I'm pretty sure they just like everyone else have several charters set up with the military.

On a slightly different note... Does anyone know if sun western is still open in Yuma?

Re: SWA IFE into KNYL for Rapid D and hole in fuselage ceili

I sure some A & P will correct me on the terms. Didn't Boeing use some Chemical Milling process to build the skin panels out of solid pieces of Aluminum vs a more traditional method of riveting supports onto the panel and then attaching them to the aircraft.
