Susi Air

Anyone have the scoop on Susi air? I heard recently that they were hiring. But when I checked their website, I didn't see anything on there about hiring. Any info would be appreciated!
Thanks JC!

I submitted my résumé to their info@susiair.com but heard nothing back from them. Some other forums had a posting saying that their HR person's e-mail is gschweighofer@susiair.com, so I emailed him, again heard nothing back. The person's last name is Schweighofer.

they answer to emails only if they are interested in you, the company is small, the HR guy is a capt, manager and one of the few peoples that speaks English at the home base, he gets about 20 resumes a day (lots of peoples from AUS,NZ and SA want to work there), so I guess he does not even read all of them. Due to the recent events I don t think they are going to train any pilots for long time.

Got this reply the day after I sent my resume in.

Thank you for your application and all the other information received.

I regret to inform you we cannot offer you a position as pilot with Susi Air in our next training courses.
In a recent meeting our Management decided to look mainly for lower hour First Officers !
To give our own First Officers a better chance to upgrade to Captains.

I wish you all the best for the future.

Best regards,
Gerald Schweighofer

while there I saw only 3 pilots with more than 2000 hours getting hired, one of them was flying caravans before, he got in as Capt, the two other I don't know.

You get trained (in the FO training you only cover stuff to operate right seat) as Capt when you reach 1000TT, and you sign a new contract, most of they fresh capts have 2000TT.

The real reason why they prefer low timers, is because they will stay longer with the company, they want you to stay at least for 3-4 years (the company is 5 years old, and I only met one guy that was there for more than 2 years), pay is low so if anybody else is hiring and you have some decent TT you may leave, it s really hard to live and work there and I think most people would take an other job if it would come up, low timers may not be able to do that and they are gonna stay with the company. Contract is only 1 year + 1 year when you upgrade as Capt.

I wanted to go there, so that I could get into the Porter. I thought it'd be an awesome gig, and was really excited about it. Filled out all of the paperwork, and they told me I couldn't come down because I had a steady girlfriend, and only single guys were allowed to work there. I was fairly upset.

The reason is that in the pilots housing, at the different bases, they don't allow girls (only female pilots that work for the company), if you have a girlfriend or a wife you can't take it there or get a visit from them. Well you could get off company housing, which is really hard and probably with the salary impossible to pay.

To fly the porter, you need previous exp on it and tail wheel time. They fly it single pilot in Papua, which is the most difficult place to fly.

I am a low-hour pilot (less than 1000) and I sent my resume to Schweighofer and got a negative response. How do u explain that?

One more thing, getting a positive response does not mean you are hired, there is a lot more stuff to do, you will have to go for an interview in Jakarta, which is not gonna be aeronautical knowledege based, than you will have to take:
TWO WRITTEN TESTS: one is from the FAA ATPL and it's multiple choice, in the other you have to write and draw pictures of airfoils and different types of engines (expelain piston, turbine and jet),
FOUR COMPUTER BASED TESTS: Emirates Compass test, English for Avaition test, Memory, Navigation test

The oral interview and the Compass are the most important parts

This is all I can rememeber

Depending how good you score you get sent in the next training class, wich is groundschool and 3 flights in the Grand Caravan 208B 675SHP, after that you will have to do a small ckride, if you need additional training you will have to pay for it, I think it was around 500$/hour.

If you get hired they will give you the SOP, which you are supposed to know before training starts.

Training is based on the Flight Safety Syllabus for the Grand Caravan, and the training Capts are trained in Whicita

oh btw, the tests are not done in a study friendly environment, it's pretty much the smoking area of the administration house, at the main base in Jakarta, there is people there smoking and talking all the time, it's crazy humid and when dark full of bugs, I think this is part of their hiring.

The tests take a full day

Could you elaborate on what the pay is??

Could you elaborate on what the pay is??

The pay when you start as an FO is 600 $ a month, when you reach 700 hours 700 $, when you sign the capt contract you get 2000$ which is about 10-12 months from start date. After that I don't know.

You can upgrade faster depending on the location you are based at, when I was there they told me location is going to change every couple month. At some location, where they have scheduled airline flights (like Medan, in Sumatra) you can build a lot faster, a young capt there told me he was making 90 hours a month. Schedule is 3 weeks on one off, and you have one free day a week.

Vacation is one month a year and I believe sick leave is like 2 weeks or a little less than that.

600$ does not sound a lot, but in Indonesia it's a lot of money. The company takes care of everything, housing (which is really nice), servants cook, clean and wash for you, drivers take you around.

Life is about 5 times cheaper then in the US.

Most pilots use the money to travel during the week off (you can go to Bali, or other nice surfing locations). local airlines take you everywhere, a round trip is around 100 dollars.

From the interview I remember that they are not looking for peoples with big loans to pay back.
