Sun Country to idle 45 of its pilots

High fuel costs have prompted Sun Country Airlines to give temporary layoff notices to 45 of its pilots.

The low-fare carrier, which increases flight operations in the winter months, has decided to fly a lighter summer schedule than previously planned, Wendy Williams Blackshaw, a Sun Country spokeswoman, said today.

Consequently, the airline will temporarily lay off 45 of its 156 pilots from May 1 through Oct. 31, Blackshaw said.

She said no other employee groups are affected by job cuts at the carrier, which is based in Mendota Heights.

Sun Country has a history of summer furloughs. I know a guy out there; I'll have to see if he's going to get hit.

the old CP (my ir examiner) at Tbird was a former SC pilot, then recently went back there. I imagine he may be on 'the list'.
