I always thought this was an interesting picture (with the old rollout paint scheme). Lookit all the wrinkles in the skin on the empennage and under the forward entry door on a brand new jet:

I wonder if this was an early run at using thinner sheet metal or something. Sukhoi doesn't exactly have a long and storied history of building transports.

The plane it's built with Alenia, which makes parts of Airbus and Boeing....

Maybe a Russian airliner will finally break into the Western market. I've always wondered why it didn't happen sooner as a lot of the 80's and 90s models still in production such as the TU-204 and the and IL-96 can and have been equipped with Western engines and avionics. In addition they have many of the same advancements that Western airliners do including FBW. My guess is that they weren't as efficient, Russian manufacturers didn't have a large enough airline support and spares network, and/or Western (particularly US) airlines being inherently conservative were hesitant to fly a new manufacturer's aircraft post collapse of the USSR.

Wrinkling is a problem for everyone. A345/6 aircraft have upper wing skins that buckle under normal loads and the 787 appears to use a design that is especially sensitive to manufacturing defects.

I just expected that a prototype built with traditional materials would be given special attention. It appears that the biggest wrinkles are at would I would guess is the aft pressure bulkhead.
