I apologize if this isn’t the right place to start a thread like this, but quite frankly I’m running out of options and could use any advice/insight/help that this community may be able to offer.
I recently finished my MBA and have been having trouble achieving my goal of getting my career off the ground with a US carrier in a professional/management type role. My father used to work for Eastern and I’ve loved flying, planes, etc since I was little. Because I live in Orlando, my initial target was AirTran, but since I’ve tried everything I could think of and haven’t been able to get anywhere with them I've expanded my search to practically every other national/major airline. So far... nothing. I’m guessing that it’s a lack of industry experience that’s killing me, because I do have graduate and undergraduate degrees in business (with strong GPA's), some non-airline work experience and a life-long passion for the industry.
At this point I just want to get started; the initial position is not a huge concern as I could do just about anything in the functional areas of business (like marketing and finance), or in revenue management, pricing/yield/route analysis, flight ops support, operations, etc. I’ve thought about customer service, but it won’t pay the bills. I’m running out of time and am thinking of ditching the whole airline industry idea, but it’s something that’s easier said than done when you’re passionate about it. Anyways I’m done rambling. Any feedback or guidance? How does one in my position break into this industry? Thanks in advance.
