Student solo questions..

Ok.. So.. I've got this student who I've signed off to solo at our local airport..

Well, his airplane is at an MX about 100nm from our home airport.

So, we need to go get his plane so we can play with his fancy brand new interior and space age technologic panel..

So, I'm thinking about taking him in my plane to get his plane. My plan is letting him fly out there, giving him the CFI tour to be able to sign him off for operations at that airport and then letting him solo his airplane back to our airport.

Do any of you current and regularly studied up CFI's see any glaring issues with this?

Seems to me to be less an issue about signing him off for operations at the other airport than about endorsing him for solo xc flight. Has he met all the requirements for that phase? If the flight out is intended to do that, what if you find he needs more work on some tasks (let's say he loses track of position at various points) before you feel comfortable signing him off for solo xc?

I don't see a legal problem, but you said that he's getting an panel update? I'd be more concerned about his level of comfort with the new panel. If it's going to be something like a new Garmin glass installation, I'd be absolutely sure he's up to speed on the new gadgetry before the solo. It would suck if he took off and got distracted, then wound up lost.

Yeah, and make sure training on the new panel/gear is logged, per the X/C solo endorsement requirements too:

61.93(e)(8) Procedures for operating the instruments and equipment installed in the aircraft to be flown, including recognition and use of the proper operational procedures and indications;

By the writing in the reg, "including recognition and use of the proper operational procedures and indications" how many G1000 CFI's, let alone student pilots meet that requirement? Hmmm...

All good comments.

We are going to fly over in my plane and take his up for a bit and then if he's comfortable and doing fine, he's going to fly home. If not, we'll make alternate plans.
