Strange heli thing today

Today, approx. 40 min ago, I was at lacrosse practice when a helicopter started circling, which I figured he was just getting some spacing in because we are in the path of the beginning of the final into KSNA. But he kept circling, for at least fifteen minutes, every once in a while breaking into what looked like a holding pattern. But then he would circle again in tight circles around the school I was at (Foothill High). Eventually he entered slow flight and landed, about a block away on this empty field. I was wondering if anyone in the Socal (more specifically KSNA) area saw this, aka Ed or maybe mrivc. I know mrivc works as a cfi at SNA so maybe you knew what was happening?

Oh and I forgot, when I passed it on the way home, the helicopter wasn't damaged, and seemed to be in working conditions to land, certainly had enough fuel to do so. Just wonderin if anyone knew what happened.

GO KNIGHTS!!!!

Once there was a Jet Ranger land at that school at the top of Redhill, it was some promo deal. It could just have been something like that!

Was it a gold MD-500 - those are the Sheriff copters.

Yeaahh Iain! My friend wouldn't stop, so I couldn't get the real story, and it flew around for long enough that it could have made another go around the flight pattern if so needed, and I did say we were in the path of final, and there wasn't very much traffic yesterday. So I have come to the conclusion that he had definitly had enough fuel to make a straight in, or even wait around for a few minutes. I did say he flew around for quite a while. Iain, how the heck did they land a chopper on the top of Redhill?? I dunno when the did this, but it's all shrowded with trees now.

They landed it at Redhill Elementary - on the soccer the feild. It was Commander Chuck Street, on his reading mission. He flies his helicopters to school, and promotes kids to read!
