I heard that steep turns are not part of the instrument rating anymore. True? That would have been nice when I got my IA.

JEP said:That is correct. I believe they were taken out in October 2004. Although they are not in the PTS your DE can still have you do them. They just can't fail you on them. I had to do them on my IR ride.
As for the IA, I assume you were referring to Instrument Airplane. (PP-ASEL/IA)
casey said:sure he can, just not as a "steep turn". if im not mistaken, the general "manuvering" task gives you some standards and he could ask you to manuever in a level left turn, 45 degrees bank or something if he really wanted. iirc, bank angle +/- 5, altitude +/- 100 are specified for instrument manuvering.

Off-topic aside, I have no idea what you are asking. FAR Part 61 contains all you need to know about the types of certificates and ratings and the requirements to get them and have them available.rickyrhodesii said:Off topic:
For those of us who aren't in the know...where can you find the meaning or appropriate way to display your licenses and ratings?
Thanks!
There's no standard for such things. I've seen people use things like CAMEL, CASMELI, stuff like that (generally Riddle kids or FSA/Dee See Eh types), but whatever floats your boat.rickyrhodesii said:Say if you were a Commercial Pilot, Multi-Engine, Instrument Rated: CP-AMEL/IA Right?
-or-
Private Pilot, single engine: PP-ASEL
-or-
Private Pilot, multi eninge, sea-plane: PP-AMES
That's what I'm looking for. Abbreviations.
