Starting your own flying buisness

As I'm getting my ratings I am thinking to myself that I am making a decent amount of money for my age and I could afford an older good condition 172. Being the little business minded person I am I thought about starting a sightseeing/shipping/advertising/instructing business.

What should I focus on when looking to start a company as such? Licences, Permits, How much will insurance be? any other big costs?

What do ya think!?

In order to instruct, you need a commercial license with CFI certificate. In order to do charter (ie "shipping" as you call it) you'd need at least 500 TT, preferable 1200 TT so you can fly in any weather, in addition to having an air carrier certificate, which takes a long time to get. Others on here may know more about the process but it's pretty long and costly.

In order to do sightseeing, I *believe* you have to have some sort of a drug testing policy in place, as that falls between strictly flight instruction and charter.
 
The best way to learn about any business is by working in it. Go to your local FBO and get a job -- line boy, admin/ops clerk, CFI, etc. You'll learn about the industry and be in a better position to start your own business.
 
Oh of course I'll have my commercial and ratings to do such. I was just wondering about any other costs? Insurance , Business costs etc?

Im 20 now and could own the plane outright in 2 years therefore all cash flow, Im just wondering if it would be profitable? Im sure I could do alot of advertising in schools for school trips or something...

What do you think?
