Starting PPL Flight Training - Anyone have a spare headset?

Hi, I am looking to buy a used headset from someone so I can start my flight training. Looking to buy your old setup that you have used. Maybe a Marv Golden or something cheap. Seen a few on eBay but thought I would try here. PayPal ready and am a legit buyer looking for a legit seller. Can anyone help a brother out so I can get started next week?

Thanks!

Sorry I can't help you, but in addition to ebay you might want to check out craigslist for your area. I got my H10.13xl off there for only 300 bucks. Hardly used. Check it out.

There's always headsets in the trading post on this forum. I know there was an ASA headset (it's a cheap headset that runs between $80-$100).

Thanks for the response. I've been checking craiglist religiously with no luck. Trying hard to catch a deal somewhere because I am trying to balance the overwhelming cost of flight time in my area along with the rest of the hidden costs associated with getting the PPL. I will be checking the classifieds as well. Thanks!

They're your ears and it's your hearing and your comfort. Personally speaking, I'd try to save money on something else. How much is not going deaf worth to you?

I've been using one of these for about 4 years and it's pretty bad. Just about every other flight I have to adjust the screw for the mic boom because it starts falling and won't stay up near my mouth, and after more then 90 minutes you WILL be in agony from the thing.
Your school probably has a few rental headsets that are usually halfway decent. The place I fly at had Clarks when I started and now has Sennheiser's. You might want to bring some alcohol wipes and wipe them down first.

I'll trade you my DC headset's used by Martha King for your Toyota Supra........................................... :D
I kid, I kid, I recommend you check out craigslist for your area. or ebay.

Re: Starting PPL Flight Training - Anyone have a spare heads

I'll sell you my 13.4's for $150 dollars plus shipping. You'll need to replace the Ear Seals, Mic Cover, and Head Cushion due to them seeing better days but you could have a good setup for about $225.

Ear Seals
Mic Cover
Head Cushion

Can't help you with a headset. I totally respect the principle of saving money. From experience I recommend getting the best headset that you can afford and suggest not cutting costs in this area. The maybe $100 you might save is such a small %'age of the total cost of getting your PPL. If getting by on the cheap is a prime motivator, I suggest rethinking aviation. Nothing cheap about it. Be prepared to spend, and spend, and spend ... You've got at least 250 hours, 3 writtens and 3 checkrides to go before you can recoup anything. Assuming $80/hr for airplane, $40/hr for a flight instructor (with ground thrown in at no charge) and $1000 for FAA written and practical tests your savings on a headset are less than one third of one per cent. Add in your books and a contingency fund too.

Frugal is good, cheap is, well, cheap.

FWIW, my .02.

:yeahthat:

I'm all for saving money too, but trust me...a nicer headset is an incredibly worthy investment. An hour with a cheap ASA headset will make you want to sever your ears because of discomfort. I bought two of those for pax headsets, and it works fine....but for me on long flights, you better believe I'm sporting a nicer David Clark. :)

Imagine his sucka CFI who has a perfectly fine headset who has to endure the radio volume turned all the way up so our man can hear the tinny voice in his POS headsets. Even with ANR that can be a problem.

Preach on brotha!

"Say again please" gets mighty expensive at $130/hour.
