Starting out in 1 month - slow and steady.

Finally after thinking about this and talking to a lot of people - I am ready to start my training.

I will still be pursuing my Masters in Career and Technical Education and will do my training over the course of the summer. Hopefully, I can have my PPL and IR over the next 4 months. Maybe commercial and CFI/I over the course of the next 2 years!

Till then I bide my time working in IT and paying the bills.

At the end of this all - maybe I will be able to teach at a 4 year / 2 year college. At 29 - I don't think the world of commercial aviation is a good choice for me.

Cheers and good luck to everyone!

Thanks! I will keep everyone posted on here. This Changing Careers thread is the best place to get some inspiration and keep working harder towards the goal!

I think this summer is going to be PPL and IR. Which seems like the most logical thing to do. After, that a few years of time building. Then I get my commercial and CFI

Congrats on going forward with training, and good luck! I was a career changer, too - I didn't start flight training until I was 29 back in 2000. I did quite a bit of flight instruction, some Part 135 charter, and currently Part 91 Corporate. Don't worry about age, there are plenty of options ahead. It sounds like you have a good plan - enjoy the ride, and keep doing it right!

Congrats on the decision, and good luck.

Keep us posted on your progress and to echo Jerry, have fun along the way!

An update. I got my 3rd class last week. I am all set to start my lessons!

Hopefully I start 2 weeks from now (the 10th)!!

Cheers!

So far, so good........

Hello all!

Just an update. After about a month - I have about 21 hours of flying done. Took a little while to getting used to the bumps and being up in a small plane in general! I have not soloed yet and am not feeling too confident about my landings!

Weather up here in northern MN is not the best... so training has been and will continue to be a little slow for the next few days!

Overall, I have been having fun and enjoyed every minute of my training(so far)! Better late than never I guess!

Cheers

Re: So far, so good........

Ooops!

HI ALL! Sorry for not updating this thread! I did post in the announcement section of the forums. I took my checkride for PPL on the 9th of October - and am now a certified Private Pilot! I got done with about 55 hours and the checkride was a blast!

I haven't flown much since and have been quite immersed in what seems to be the busiest semester of grad school yet!

Hopefully Instrument and commercial ratings - sometime in the next year (or two)!

Thanks all for your help and inspiration! None of this would have been possible and I thought of quitting after about 15 hours!

Cheers
Sunny

Re: So far, so good........

Congrats on the PPL. Don't get in too much of a rush to "git er done". As everyone here has said take your time and enjoy the ride.
