Sports Team Flying

How does one find out who is the charter or corporate jet company that each proffesional sports team uses? The reason I'd like to know is that I am a hard core LA Dodger fan. When I say hard core, I mean I bleed Dodger blue. Although my goal is to fly for a regional airline and the US Air Force Reserves, if I could land a job flying for the Dodgers I would take that job in a heart beat and never leave. I would probably fly for free but I assume the pay probably would be decent. I know I sound crazy, but I truly love the team that much. How difficult is it to land such a job, and how does one apply? Thanks.

Alot of your larger pro teams actually have their own aircraft. Mark Cuban has his own personal GV and a 757 for the Mavs.

Jerry Jones has a Giv for the Cowboys and the Orlando Magic have a 737.

Its hard to say...snooping is your best bet.

Its pretty easy to figure out with flightaware, just search for flights between two cities your team will be traveling through and look for an unusual flight number or airline.

You know, I'd imagine that it's "not that cool" to fly those guys, seeing as I'll bet they spend a bulk of the travel time sleeping. Sure, you'll get to meet some players, but they're just people. And until those people start winning division championships, you shouldn't put them on a pedestal :p

Dolphin's have their own jet (BBJ), Heat have their own (727), Panther's and Marlins use Miami Air for theirs (727)

It all varies with different teams, etc. I know for college, a bunch of teams use Delta.

Yep myself and some friends of mine have flown flown a few college BBall teams on the CRJ with a Delta Coordinator. Next time you think you are cramped in the back of one of those things, imagine that 7 foot center doing it. For the crew it's a good gig though because you get to partake in all the catering/snacks/etc.

Most of the Pro teams I've seen do charters with the Majors, or Regionals for that matter. Some of them have aircraft painted in the team livery however, they are operated by some other airline/company.

NWA does a bunch of charters for NFL, NBA, etc. They have (or had) a separate charter division and even have (or had -- my info's a few years old) specially decked out jets for those types of charters.

Yep...sho did/do. US AIR too, and CHQ seems to do a lot of collegiate charters.

Will be several years before you should put them on a pedestal then. I would look for another job!

Sorry, my roommate is a Giants fan.

This is the year, as long as Bonds isnt too distracted. We should have won it a few years ago when we blew Game 6 because of injuries (Nen) and collapsed after that. I think the discussion was about winning the division though, which we seem to do more than our fair share.

Yeah, if only you can beat the almost sub-.500 Division Champion Padres. :whatever:

Weakest. Division. In. Baseball.

(And you're cheating and still can't win it!)

In the period leading up to March Madness, SkyWest had a huge charter operation ferrying NCAA basketball teams (Illinois, Iowa, Michigan St., Villanova) to their games. The pilots who flew these charters received a lot more pay and much much nicer accomodations during this operation. And SkyWest ended up receiving much more money than this kind of job should normally entail.

And as far as this little side conversation goes, I have only 3 words:

"dUCK the fODGERS"

Texas Rangers have a 727 that is in KLGB all the time. I believe they share it with a few other Texas teams. Next time I see the pilot when I'm walking out the plane I'll ask him how he got into it.

A lot of college teams use Miami Air/ 737-800's. Not a bad gig, but its a lot of weekend flying and pre madonna passengers.

The company that flys around the New Jersey Devils is a called Paradigm Air

I talked to the capt, and he was saying that getting hired with them is pretty much reserved for folks just coming off the line from Legacy carriers.

The Columbus BlueJackets have a DC9 which is owned by the owner, John McConnell. JMs company also has 2 challengers for business. JMs son goes to my school.
