Special resume needed for airlines?

One of the flight instructors I work with, said that I should use air inc. to do a professional resume. One that I typed up on Word won't work? Is there some kind of special format I should know about?

Doug has some pretty good advice on this. Click here.

you should infom your friend about how "accurate" Kit Darby's number predictions have been in the past.

"Remember next year the airlines are gonna hire like 50 billion pilots......send me $19.95 to find out how to get in on it!!!"

from the articles I have seen with references to him in the flyin magzines his Air Inc seems pretty shady to me.

Hey now, I've got my own service for aspiring military pilots.

So for only $24.95, I Mike Derby, will tell you how you too can be in the seat of an F-15 within 2 years. The military is experiencing a huge shortage of pilots. Just buy my product, and I'll tell you the secret to being able to go from flying Cessna's, to dropping bombs on the Taliban in just 2 easy years!

I'll take it!! Where do I send my check?

You know, my beloved Corps told me I was too old to fly for them....I'm behind the "learning curve"....

I have tried the vairous services to help pilots get hired and none have worked. My last 3 jobs have come from networking/ personal recommendations for a company to hire me.. I do believe that your resume needs to scannable and in a professional formation. Other than that I don't see the need to waste cash on a service unless that airlne requires you to use a service to apply to them.

Avoid putting graphics or lines in your resume it throughs off the scanners that companies use to input resumes into their computer data bases.

I know that back in the day when I had a plain old 'Word' resume myself my Skywest Capt pal wouldn't let me send it out. He promptly came over and re-worked it into an 'aviation style' resume.

Yes, there are some preferred formats. Depending on your TT and qualifications, using the Air Inc airline specific formats could really polish it up or make it look fuller. You don't need them to do it for you though. Their resume workbook is great. It has formats for low & high time aviators. I'd say it was worth the $25.

I have seen some examples of general Word type resumes at job fairs pilots tried to put their flight grids into and they looked pretty bad. They just didn't 'flow' right over the page, appeared like paragraphs in a book and didn't seem to have an order to them (all flight related should be at the top- including school). Considering that many resumes get looked over less than 1 minute, it would be preferrable to get the clearest, best presented and organized format possible for your flight experience.
