Speaking of Regional Pay...

Well, just be happy flyin yer jet for $20k a year buddy!

In case you didn't realize, this is a very highly regarded profession. Not everyone can strap into an Airliner and make life or death situations when it matters most. Hell, half the morons that are putting around the sky don't know what the hell they're doing! Granted there are some Professional Airline pilots that slip through the cracks, but for the most part, this career field isn't for everyone. Sure the Regionals might not require a 4 year degree, but the Majors do. If you're a bonehead that thinks obtaining a 4 year degree makes you a "Professional Airline Pilot", you're a real bonehead. It takes a lot more then book smart knowledge to be a pilot on a Professional level. I think us Professional Pilots deserve more money than we get credit for. Just ask Seggy or any other Captain at a Regional slugging it out in the trenches. The decisions they are faced with everyday can effect many many lives. Some lives which may affect yours. ;)

You can't put a price on a human life, but the Regionals do it all the time with sub $30k wages.

I think that a lot of people could be airline pilots if they wanted to. I don't want to make this job sound easy, but if you work hard at it, you can easily become a pilot. Sure some are better than others, but this isn't some kind of a job where you're either born with it or not. I know that there are some people that just don't get it, but with proper training, just about anyone can succeed. There is no way that you gain the experience needed to make the decisions in the 1 year you do in training to deserve the high amounts of pay that you guys are talking about. I do believe that a 4 year degree gives you more than "book smart knowledge". College is about learning how to learn, and helps in all phases of life. Bottom line is that $20k first year is too low, but after that, the wages are set by the market. If you don't like it, then go into a different field. Just don't expect to find one with pay as high as it is, without a college degree.
