Not sure if anyone has heard the news yet, but Scaled is gonna try their first suborbital flight June 21. Here is the link to the story : http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5121072/
Anybody in the socal area planning on going? I wanted to fly there, but they are supposedly closing the airport (or is it spaceport yet?!) to transient aircraft several days before the flight. I got to go to Scaled last Spring right after they unveiled the SpaceShipOne project. One of the pilots/soon to be astronauts is a Cal Poly alumni (Peter Siebold), so a group of us aero students got a private weekend tour! We also got to meet another Cal Poly alumni, Burt Rutan!! It was awesome. Two of us got to fly the SpaceShipOne simulator. Anyways, going to see the first privately funded space flight might be a good excuse for some local JC'ers to get together. Hope everyone is having a great week

...that's nothing, wait until the FAA comes up with the FAR for "PIC of space vehicles".....

You'd think after spending millions of dollars in development, they could come up with a better name than SpaceShipOne. :x

Be careful what you ask for. Next thing you know it will be called the MacDonald's One, or the Mountain Dew Suborbital, or even worse - The Cialis Pocket Rocket.

I would be up for meeting on the 21st. Is that over at Mojave?

Yeah, it's at the Mojave airport. It's a bummer that flying in is not an option since its early in the morning. I'd imagine that the crowds will be fairly large too.
