I think like 15 minutes ago.

Interesting listening to the CNN correspondent diss the entire city of Mojave: "Wow! We're in the middle of nowhere! Just a gas stop on the way to Los Angeles!"

Geez, the...WOO there it goes!

And the correspondent was yacking about the Starship as SpaceShipOne took off and it literally caught him by surprise.

Geez, great "Situational Awareness" guy!

I don't think the media has a good grasp on the true gravity of what the Rutan's are doing out in the desert, but if they're successful, this could spell a new era in space exploration.

Hopefully, they won't do two decades of "Let's place another TV satellite in space" and "how do earthworms grow in zero gravity" type hubris.

That said, I think/hope this is a step in the direction of what space exploration is all about.

You know, the crap we were "promised" in our cartoons....like the Jetsons.

Well They did it!!! 100 kilometers in altitude, and back on the ground safely. That's 328,083 feet people. Hot Damn!

Incredible! Was anyone else extremely disappointed with the news coverage of this? Our reporters were saying some outrageously stupid and unresearched things.

This is probably one of the coolest thing we'll witness in our lifetimes, guys. Remember this day!

Hopefully this will also spur a new interest in aviation as a whole!

Dang... and here I am at work... missing the entire thing...

oh wait.. i'm sure our media guys will show replay after replay on the news tonight right?! wonder if they'll get any of the info actually right....

yeah I loved the comment calling the enthusiasts "spacies"
I don't claim to know alot about space exploration, but I think I'd do some decent research before I broadcast on national TV. But what can ya expect from CNN.

MOJAVE, Calif. - The SpaceShipOne rocket plane soared high above the Earth on Monday, becoming the first privately developed craft to go into space.

SpaceShipOne took off from the Mojave Airport, nestled beneath its White Knight carrier plane, at about 6:45 a.m. PT, sailing up into the clear desert sky. About an hour later, at an altitude of almost 50,000 feet, the White Knight released its companion craft, and SpaceShipOne test pilot Mike Melvill lit up his rocket engine for a 70-second straight-up blast.

This is bigger than Kitty Hawk," said Tim Reeves. The 60-year-old arrived at 7:30 p.m. the night before from Los Angeles. "At Kitty Hawk they didn't have visions of 747s dancing in their heads. Here, everybody knows what this portends for private space flight."

Actually, I bet the story gets buried at the end of the newscasts tonight.

I have been flipping between news channels for the past hour and nothing. And Fox News keeps saying "stay tuned..." Ugghhh!!! I guess I'll just have to read about it.

Yeah I was very disappointed with the coverage, I kept having to channel bounce to keep the TV on one of the news channels showing it.

CSPAN failed to come through, as well

It's interesting though. The same type of thing happened in 1903 with the Wrights when the news finally reached the media. The story ended up as a blip in an obscure paper.
