Southwest taking out the competition in LGA

Last night one of them shut the ground operation down in LGA waiting for a gate, off-freq, and NORDO.

Cost us 20 minutes because GND couldn't get ahold of him.

Sounds like the perfect thing to do during the holiday season! :sarcasm:

"The flight, which had been scheduled to depart at 11:50 a.m., was delayed until 3:10 p.m. after the plane's tail wing was damaged."

Le sigh.

Had you blocked out yet?

Nah, we were enroute to the gate and LGA just let loose for a bit. And then we followed the same flight (FO sounded the same) westbound. I think it was 9 or 19 or something like that.

"Don't worry, a little duct tape and bondo and you're good to go!"
Actually you can get a disposition from the manufacturer to fly with a portion of your winglet missing and it usually involves speed tape.

actually the MEL is to just remove the winglet.
Never dealt with Boeing products but I'm aware of a couple G-IVs that got dispositions and ferry permits that flew with a damaged winglet to a repair station for repair/replacement. Oddly pilots reported that landing with some of the vortex generators damaged/missing seemed to have more of an effect on handling than a portion of the winglet missing.

Duct tape might work for the FAA. Doesn't work for the passengers.

That and a ton of bad PR when a picture of your duct taped wing in flight taken from 21A appears on the front page of every newspaper in the country.
