I think it's interesting how southwest was able to become the launch customer for this aircraft. They were able to push American down the list and will be able to receive the aircraft before them. They seem to have a nact for getting their way, treat everyone right and I believe you deserve to get special treatment.

I don't think that is the case at all. The last time I looked, Boeing already had almost 800 commitments from 12 customers for the Max and only American, Lion Air and ACG had gone public with announcements. The rest of the customers wanted to remain unidentified for the time being. I think it's interesting that this announcement is made by SWA shortly after the "concessions" rumors floating about recently. Don't think that these orders would not be used as a negotiating tool if need be. Let's wait and see "how right" they will be treating their employees in the near future. I wouldn't be surprised to see their current bag fees policy possibly change as well. One never knows. AMR pushed themselves down the list with their bankruptcy issues. The fat lady has not sung yet on either front. Changes are going to happen at SWA. It remains to be seen what those changes will be.

No way, SWA is and will always be in a period of perpetual growth, profits, and employee prosperity. At least that is what I was told in the other thread.

In all seriousness, SWA just bought their way to the top of the list for fleet replacements. Smart move perhaps. 2017 is a long way off. We'll see how it plays out. I think SWA will be a very different place by 2017 but that's me.

While I sure hope that SW continues to be the place to go, they are the only people carrier with pay rates what they should be for that size aircraft, I do think it has to slow down at some point. I just hope the music keeps blasting long enough for some of the other Major and National airlines to get their pilot contracts back up, or close to what they were pre 9/11. If SW goes, I don't see much hope.

AMR has more of a negative impact than SWA does a positive impact IMO. That's unfortunate.

I suspect AMR's getting pushed down the delivery list has more to do with their bankruptcy rather than SWA's influence. A bankrupt customer does not provide a lot impetus to sell them anything.

What's important is: how many additional hulls? Not replacement... Growth. Then you can start projecting training float and hiring.
