Southwest bids $170 million for Frontier Airlines

I'd rather see Southwest get Frontier than RAH. Though if it does aquire F9 it opens the door for SWA into ATL to give some harassment to Delta and Air Tran. Now the big question is what SWA would do with Lynx?

Southwest will sell off Lynx. Skywest, republic, take a guess. The Q doesn't fit the Southwest game. Unless, it does fit the new "growth" model for Sw... Hmmmmmmmm
Lottery win for the Lynx Q drivers, if it does...

road goes on forever, and the party never ends

Knowing what they've done with other carriers, they'll probably buy 'em, dump the jets and the pilots and internally expand into those routes.

Theyve publicly published the fact that they will not keep the frontier brand long term or the Airbus. The employees would be given positions as they came available.

Which is still better then a purchase of them by RAH... :) And for some reason I think the pilots will not just be given positions rather there will be a merge of the list. It would be difficult to get around that.

rah needs to buy frontier in order for their world domination plan to work. well see what happens

From what I see in the article. It looks like Frontier pilots will merge with SW. Lynx on the other hand, have either hit the jackpot or will be unemployed in a little while.

Did you guys read the article? It says Southwest is swapping out for 737's over two years for a totally of 40 out of F9's original 51. I bet Boeing is gettin' excited...

Better than RAH I guess...

Not necessarily. There are plenty of 737s sitting in the desert just waiting for someone to use them.

I was talking to my dad about this (#40 at SWA, which means he usually doesn't really care or know about whats going on...) and he says everyone is really glad the TA didn't pass now. According to him last week there was no word on pilot integration except that the Frontier pilots are going to be in front of the poolies. Which really sucks if you've been waiting for a job for the last year or two. Also with 500 pilots it's probably going to be a while before SWA hires again.

ding ding ding, we have a winner!

union conference call last week said F9 pilots are now SWAPA pilots. Lynx also.

As greaper pointed out above, this is bad, bad news for anyone who wants to fly for Southwest and doesn't fly for Frontier. I'll be hoping against it for that (very selfish) reason alone. As for the "poor Frontier pilots", I'd take a guranteed class date at SWA at some indeterminate point in the future over a job at RAH tomorrow every day and twice on Sunday.

If Lynx really gets rolled into Southwest, going there will turn out to be the best career move of the century.

I bet those Lynx guys are on the edge of their seat.... don't know which way to go... That'd be awesome for the guys who wanted to end up flying for SWA... not so much for the SWA haterz.

Now the quastion is do the Lynx and F9 guys have to go out an buy their 737 type or will SWA pay for it to get them all qualled?

Im sure there being hired at Southwest will be dependent on them getting the type, at their own expense. The original SWAers will be quite ticked if Southwest starts giving out types now.

Frontier used to fly 737s. Retired the last one just a few years ago, so (need to make phone call to make sure) pilots who have been there more than 3-5 years probably already have a 737 type rating.

EDIT: F9 retired the last 737 in April 2005...
