***DISCLAIMER: I do not speak for the company. I'm a happily-employed dispatcher trying to get the word out and give a brief sense of the cohesion of our team on the desks and present a sense of what you might expect and what we're looking for in a team member***

Come Join Our Team at Southern Air!

If you're motivated to fulfill your potential and augment your knowledge as a dispatcher, this is the place to be. We are a growing company operating flights on 777 and 747 aircraft (orders on the way!) to all continents but Antarctica.

If you're motivated, eager to learn, well-trained and work well with others, my boss wants to hear from you! Previous experience is, quite frankly, necessary for the work that we do. The 4 day on-off schedule working 12 hour shifts when you're on is pretty cool... you can get a lot of living done on those 4 days off, but when you have those 4 on, your work is your life. If you love your work it's fulfilling to learn something new every day and encouraging when you are able to execute well. The 12 hour shifts seldom drag on; you stay busy and remain engrossed in your work. Shifts start at 8 and end at 8; unlike my last job, I actually get to see my wife every day for an appreciable length of time.

I'd like to stress once more that we are looking for motivated and eager professionals to join our team. If you're tired of the "click-click-send" routine and yearn for a greater challenge, are positive (very important; if you're not we don't want you around, frankly) and willing to work hard in training, we're anxious to work with you. If you like to coast, stay comfy, and complain, stay where you are.

Good luck!:rawk:

The starting pay is not a set salary (you are not paid hourly, but you do get 1.5x an average hourly rate for OT)- we don't have a union and they may pay more based on prior experience. If I gave away my salary amount the company might not like that I divulged it, nor would I wish to. I can say that they recognize Connecticut is not a cheap place to live and compensate fairly. In terms of the straight dollar amount, you can reasonably negotiate a starting salary that is perhaps better than most majors would pay for the first several years, and probably better than one might make at some regionals after many years.

What else could one negotiate into the hiring package???:bandit:

I saw they are hiring a Manager of System Ops... Since they fly for Thai Air, I wonder if you can negotiate a trip to BKK to learn Thai... I always wanted to talk Thai...

Why? You don't speak Malaysian and that didn't seem to be much of an impediment....

We also fly for Korean Air, Malaysian (MASKargo), Lufthansa, CAL Air Cargo, Shanxi (China), Ethiopian, and last, but not least, the U.S. D.O.D... oh, and a buncha guys based out of SDF to help `em play Santy Claus.

Well Look, they fly for Malaysian too, wonder if they need a station manager... I apparently talk Malay!

We're working on getting CASS. 12 hour shifts 4-on-4-off, we're supplemental so we don't fall into the 10 hour shift rule. Salaried with time and a half for OT. As I was saying, 8 to 8 are the shift times. Health, Dental, Vision, 2 weeks vacation. Lovin' the 4 days off and the shift start/end times. Working days affords one somewhat of a normal life. 747 and 777 experience, folks, with some ETOPS- destinations throughout the world... regular NAT track flights and dispatching into some pretty interesting places. Check it out- we need good people who love a challenge.

Never mind the link at the top of this thread which takes you to a page that reads Title: Operations Controller, which you may have missed on the main jobs page, looking only for the word "dispatcher." Posted date 04/19/11 requisiton number 11-065.

Fail.

I have heard that ABXAir in Wilmington, OH, is also hiring three dispatchers right now. Similar type of gig I think. 767's.
