CT local TV news indicated Southern Air canned a pilot for complaining about violations of duty hours back in 06- I think.
Yesterday the court found back pay, safety issues, and a couple extra facial slaps in order to end abusive practices. Ordered them to pay $400K or more to pilot.
No comment from Southern Air.

At least eight more pilots filed complaints with OSHA who will announce their findings shortly. This airline is going to face some hefty fines for their abusive treatment of flight crews.

About effing time! I wonder if this will start a trend, and more importantly, if it will fix anything if it does.

If the Miss Management team was already trying to continue operations, while inverted condition, what will they do when faced with 8 or 10 judgements against them?

Here is my question. The guy complained that Southern made him fly over FAA allowable limits. That is great that he reported it, and even better that he won...but does the FAA now violate him personally for violating the rules?

If they want to be dicks about it, I'm sure they could.

Recently we've been having issues with the incorrect out/on off/on times being entered into crewtrac and united/us airways's system which can cause an issue for both pay and legality. Our POI said that if we were ever forced to fly a trip where our numbers say we'd be illegal but management says not, to fly the trip and then call him and there would be no violation (for us anyway.)

Howdy All. I thank all of you for your comments and or support. I am neither proud of what I am doing or what I have done. Unfortunately, It was necessary.

Yes I am the one your reading about. I am really not at liberty to elaborate but here is what one person wrote on another web board.

jetboy writes:

There is much more to the story than this. There were 13 others fired along with him and their Dir. of Safety. Their company is suing them for $50 million USD for reporting numerous violations to authorities in an attempt to pursued the fired individuals into dropping their complaints, and to intimidate other employees from doing the same. This companies actions has driven these safety conscious individuals into severe financial hardship.

This has all been going on for the past year and this company has been using various stall tactics to avoid and evade cooperating with the authorities. This airline is still violating serious safety regulations, and employee rights today taking retaliation by forcing crewmembers to remain by the phone during reserve periods not allowing them to do laundry, work out at the gym, or even to go to eat. All in retaliation for OSHA's actions of enforceing FAR rest and duty requirments.

Again I am not at liberty to elaborate, but what jetboy says is pretty accurate. There is still much more to it.

I would like all to know that there is someone listening. And you do have relief when questioning safety. Now I don't encourage anybody to go picking conflicts with your management. All I am saying is that there is protection against reprisal if it comes down to speaking with your superiors. An also an added advantage. You don't have to be right to have protection so long as your challenge was done in good faith. Like they say if it doesn't look right or feel right, it likely isn't.

To get more information I would be happy to any questions pertaining to the Wendall H. Ford Aviation Protection Act. I will answer on this site or you can email Air21WB@aol.com, or just google OSHA Air21, or visit the DOL.GOV website. Its all there.

Fly safe and keep the dirty side facing the ground.

Good luck to all
