Some Pointers About The New Chat Feature

a. The same rules apply in the chat that apply in the forum.
b. Do NOT, and let me stress this, do NOT say something in the chat that you would not say in the open forum and become part of the public record.
c. Keep in mind that the chat is a feature of our community and not a function of the forum software so a couple lines of code and it's like it never existed.
d. Do not, for a moment, think your "freedom of speech" cannot be trumped by my inherent laziness. If you get yourself backed up into a corner and cross the libel line, I've got an 8 lbs box of unpopped popcorn and plenty of beer to enjoy the fireworks offline.
e. If you can't use it correctly, don't use it.
f. The feature is on a super-tight leash. If you wreck it, expect public humiliation.

Have a great day! :)

So, uh, where IS this chat feature? Not seeing it on the home page. Am I just blind, or did it already get the axe?

should be in a tool bar across the bottom of you screen. At least that is where it showed up in Goggle Chrome.

It should be on the bottom. If it's not, clear your cache and reload. If it's not there after that, it's probably some third-party app in Chrome.

"When I was your age...I had to listen to a dial-up modem just to get to AOL to get into a chatroom....now it comes to you!"

Wait wait, I got it!

So is the chat searchable by Google, for those of us testing the profanity filter?

Here's the problem. They carry a CRAP TON of liability and I want to be very clear about my expectations about your usage of the chat feature. If it's 5% of the cesspool of what I see when I peek into the AOL chat, the feature will go away permanently. I can't stress this enough, but do not say anything on our chat feature that would earn a violation on the forum. That user will not only cost the entire forum use of the chat, but will probably get his/her ass canned from our community as well.

...Sorry Doug...

Nah, I just don't want JC to end up on MSNBC's "To Catch A Predator" because of a potentially idiotic user.

Not saying that any of you are, I just want you guys to understand the seriousness when I tell you that I'm going to dump the liability of what you do/say square in their lap if there are any problems! :)
