Solo flight under 25 Miles

Hi all, I'm studying for my CFI and have a quick question on the endorsement for solo flight to an airport within 25 miles of the originating airport. Reading 61.93 I'm relatively positive that you can give this endorsement prior to giving the initial solo cross country endorsement but I just want to make sure that I'm understanding the FAR correctly.

Also, I'm curious if you CFI's give this endorsement on a regular basis? It seems like a good idea to give the endorsement so the student has an out in case cross winds pick up or something happens at the originating airport that closes the airport/runway while the student is up on a solo practice flight.

Thanks!

Yes, you can. It's a pretty regular endorsement to give. Who is to say that someone doesn't bend one up on a runway and close the place down for two hours, and your student only took an hour and 45 off gas.

I used to give this endorsement all the time. Our home field was inside the SFRA and there were two airports next to the practice area just outside the SFRA that we would regularly use. Normally, a student would solo at one of these outlying fields, so repeated solos to them wasn't an issue because I had trained them at each field as often, if not more, than home plate.
