Socal Plane Crashes

Wow, bad day for So Cal. Curious to what the medical emergency was? Heart attack maybe?

I was at Catalina today. LAFD, Sheriff and Coroner were eating lunch on the patio when I was. They think the C-182 came from San Diego but it sounded like they were watching a 1200 code. Aircraft and personal ID destroyed by fire. Unicom operator backed up the chest pain story.

Then why say anything? Ive flown over 1000 hours in Socal and haven't made the news. Hopefully the rest of you guys don't show up on JC either. Stuff happens. Perhaps I'm out of line but everyone knows somebody who knows somebody who once flew to XXX.

Geez man, have a little compassion. Yeah, we've all lost someone to aviation, and those that haven't probably will. It's a sad fact, but it doesn't make it less tragic to lose someone, just because others have shared similar pain. We're a family here at JC, and as my JC family has supported me in my loss, I will support them as well.

Cody, I'm sorry for your loss. Let's go fly soon.

I caught it on the news last night. The thing is, they weren't really talking about the crashes. They were going off about how SMO needs to be shut down due to the surrounding urban environment.

RIP to our fellow aviators.

God forbid airplanes be anywhere around people. I wonder how people would feel if they had to drive 5 hours to get to the airport when they wanted to go on vacation? They probably wouldn't complain about then being so close anymore. I don't know though... with the intelligence level of today's public they would probably still gripe.

I'm sorry you lost someone you know, Cody. It sucks, it really does. :(
RIP to all involved.

Yes, I like that idea very much! I've been wondering where you went!

We definitely need to fly soon. I worked 90+ hours/week for the last 6 weeks....It has spurred my "office space" approach to work now...I showed up an hour and a half late today, left an hour early, and turned off my phone. Oh and I also expensed lunch today, charo chicken for the whole office :D I enacted the office space mentality about 5 days ago and I'm gradually recovering...so far, so good.

"Yeah, hi....this is bill lumbergh again....."

This, exactly. Sorry for your loss, Cody... and RIP to the fallen.

The Captain I've been flying with is a Long Beach native. He's lost 5 friends to mid-air accidents in the SoCal area.. 2 in one accident- they hit each other.

It's crowded airspace, everybody. Keep the eyes outside and stay sharp.

And as Tld said, if one of us loses a loved one, we all do by extension. The JC community is a family.
This sort of conversation is not the place to make academic criticism.

Once again, deepest sympathies.

Minnesota Pilot Killed in California Plane Crash

FOREST LAKE, Minn. - A small plane, flown by a Forest Lake man, crashed in Catalina Island in California and killed the pilot Thursday afternoon.
The crash, that ignited a brush fire, killed 53-year-old Jeff Loeffler of Wyoming, Minnesota.
According to a report, Loeffler had a heart attack while he was flying the small plane. According to KTLA, LA County Sheriff's Lt. Jeff Donahue says the pilot radioed the airfield to report he was having chest pains that could indicate a heart attack and didn't think he could make the runway.
A Facebook page was setup for Loeffler by a family friend.

Sorry for your loss.... RIP. Having a heart attack while flying an airplane is one hell of a way to go.
