So im cruising along at 11,000...

cmill

Cold Ass Honky
And i get a call from center.

Houston center: centurion 177 are you on top?

Me: Afirm

Houston center: Ok good, get ready because im about to make your day.

Me: Yeah, hows that?

Houston center: Traffic 7 O'clock 9000 ft, over taking you, he'll pass a mile off your left wing in about 20 seconds.

Me: That didnt really make my day.

Houston Center: OK, its a B-52.

And my day was made. :) The bad thing was, my phone was going dead so i turned it off and couldn't get it turned on quick enough to take a picture. How often do you get to take a picture of a B-52 right under your wing?

nice! too bad you couldnt get a pic though, same thing happens to me all the time: every time I need a camera, I never have one

Damn, that is awesome! Flying around military airspace I have been very lucky to witness F-15's, F-16's, C-130's, KC-135's, and even CV-22's in close proximity to my aircraft but never a B-52. What a sight that has to be!

yeah, my base is under a NAS' airspace, so i see F-15's all the time, but man that b-52 was bad ass.

If you were a little higher you would have seen our division of T-45's coming back from San Diego.....we were at FL390 though :)

Very cool though, I'd love to see that. Such behemoths. My cool heavy sighting of the week was coming into the break at Miramar on Tues when an AN-124 departed to the north......

The USAF heavies out of MacDill like to cut through our traffic pattern at KSPG all of the time. And the Coast Guard C130's at 1000 AGL flying circles over the water. I'm within a half mile of one at least a few times a month.

After my 1st year in College, my parents came to pick me up in a rented 182. We were coming into Southwestern Colorado at about 1500' AGL when I saw a spot on the horizon with no relative movement. At first I thought it was a light single going the opposite direction. Then for some reason I thought it might be a helicopter because of its strange profile. Then it got really big, REALLY fast...it was a B-1 that was SCREAMING in the opposite direction at our approximate altitude. Before we could decide what do do for collision avoidance, he ducked down and split the difference between us and the ground...passed right underneath us. It...was...AWESOME! Left quite an impression on a guy with a wet PPL.

That sounds like when I was over Oceana a month or so ago, with F18s flying right off my wing or right below me. Def cool stuff!

hahaha, I might have had wet pants in addition to my PPL...

Great share! Nothing like seeing a sight like that. Had a B-2 cruise right overhead a thousand feet above a year or so ago. Quite a sight!

On a similar note, I often fly right below the break at an MCAS on the west coast.

For the lay person, it translates to F-18's 500' over head going the opposite direction.

I can relate somewhat. Way back in 96 is was driving along US40 in eastern CO under the Cheyenne MOA. (Yes it qualifies as the middle of nowhere) when a B1 went screaming north to south about 500agl and about 2 seconds later 2 F-16s were on his tail. Not what I was expecting.

Got my heart going.

I was in San Carlos last year. They were bringing a C-17 in to deliver a fire truck. The airport manager was ultra stoked at the idea and was really excited for us to see it.

We shrugged and said, "Yeah, those are built across the field from us."

On that note, my student has a checkride in the morning and if all goes well he will be flying C-17's for the ANG soon! Lets hope for the best!
