Hi guys -

Sorry if this is OT, but it's kind of in line with lruppert's question, and I didn't want to 7600 his thread: does anyone own a smartphone with the Microsoft O/S? They look interesting, but I don't know how versatile they are. I would want it to pick up my POP3 mail and sync with Outlook, especially if I'm professionally flying soon.

Anyone? Thanks!
J.

One of my captains had one of the Treo's which is PDA/Telephone thing with bluetooth.

He could leave the Treo in his suitcase and then using his wireless Jabra headseat, dial out without even touching the thing or removing it from his bag.

Now THAT's pretty sly.

I like the looks of the Treo, but it still seems a little *clunky* for me. They've got the right idea, at least for me, since the calendar and contact list are really the only things that I use my PDA for.

How did the captain dial out with the Jabra without accessing the Treo dial pad? Voice activated dialing?

Is the Treo a Microsoft O/S (CE or whatever they call it these days), or is it Palm? I know that my current Palm (Sony Clie) PDA syncs up just fine with Outlook, at least via docking station. Does anyone know if there is any big reason to use the MS O/S in a Smartphone instead of Palm? Advantages / disadvantages?

I dunno. I do know my Motorola (hello moto!) V300 has a feature where I can put a button on my headset and do a voice dial. It might be similar but only wireless (a button on the jabra?).

Seemed like a pretty slick setup, but the battery life has to be piss poor.

Treo uses the palm OS. Pretty slick. T-Mobile now offers a epic 3 radio unit. It's an HP (Compaq) unit that runs the Microsoft Windows Phone Edition. It's got Bluetooth, WI-FI, and GSM/GPRS installed on it. What this means is that you could be using the network features of the device and it can roam from GPRS to WI-FI and back again. I may just have to trade in my crackberry for that thing...

I have a Samsung SPH I500. It has a Palm as well as the cell. It's great. I like it. I can't say anything bad about it.

Compact, has my little black book in it, and it accesses the web when I want it to. I love it. It's not cheap, though.
