Small Incident at MHT Today

A Northwest Airlines Airbus' wingtip collided with a United Express tail today at MHT. The FAA will be looking into this matter to see if the tower gave proper instructions and if the flight crews made the appropriate actions. The United Express tail has a large gash taken out of it. The Northwest Airbus' damage is hardly visible. There is no injuries. That is all I know from watching the news.

Here is news report from online... Airplanes Damaged in Runway Collision

LOL, with the wingwalkers they still don't manage to stay clear of each other.

That does make it even more stupid. I guess it was the pilots fault? Was visibillity low or something?

Not a cloud in the sky, in the 70's all day. Weather was definately not an issue here today. Like I said, the FAA will review and find out what did happen.

Hard to exactly judge where the wingtips are on many aircraft because you can't see them.

I've watched lots of jetliners almost make contact on the taxiways before. Heck, I almost got hit by an ATR that misinterpreted ground controls instructions.

is that pretty much the end of their careers?

Damn, I shot the VOR 35 a few times this afternoon. Had I known I could have taken some great photos for my fellow JCer's. Tower didn't sound to frazzled today although it was a "new" voice.

I had actually thought about going over there today and doing some spotting. My guess is that CRJ will be there for a while so I will have some time to sneek around and get some pictures from a 300mm lens.

Stupid? Not necessarily. There are times where ground crews will pushback the aircraft in such ways where you sit there and say "how the heck are we going to get out of here?" There might be plenty more to the story.

Doubtful.

More news on it...The pilots are relieved for a few days, the newspaper says that they will be back in rotation this month. Mechanics from BOS came up to see the Airbus A319. The United Express needs a new rudder, ACA is going to repair right here in MHT.
