Skywest Training Questions (Brasilia)

A fellow flight instructor here has been hired by skywest to fly the brasilia. He just received the training packet and had some questions that some of you might be able to answer.

What do these stand for?

Np
NL
Nh

Under Operating temp limits
EFIS
FIS

Thanks

Np - Prop speed (in percent of 100)
NL - Low-speed spool, speed (in percent of 100)
Nh - High-speed spool, speed (in percent of 100)

A "spool" is one compressor and one turbine pair.

The Brasilia has a low speed compressor and high speed compressor each linked independently to a respective turbine.

Under Operating temp limits
EFIS - Electronic Flight Inforamtion System (partial "glass")
FIS - Flight Information System ("steam" guages)

Thanks, that all makes sense.

Found a few others though- EEC?

And were are assuming Vb is turbulent air pen speed?

What is DV in regards to max window open speed?

CL?

Thanks, again

Side question: My flight school also had someone hired to fly the Brasilia at Skywest last week and we both had a pt121 question.

If you are flying a leg as the FO (sole manipulator of the controls), can you log that time as PIC? Does it matter if you have the type rating or not? Thanks

Nope, you can't log PIC time unless you have a type reguardless of the rules you're operating under. If the plane didn't require a type, let's say it was a King Air 200, and you were not on a 135 or 121 leg (so part 91, obviously) you could fly as and log PIC all you wanted. But to do so under 135 or 121 you'll need a PIC check and/or a type.

Well you will get sic typed during training. But that doesn't matter; I think from now on all anyone cares about is part 1 pic time ('real' pic).

There were a few FO's that came over from Lakes that were captains there on the 120. They *might be able to log it as PIC, but imagine going to an interview and the guy asking you how you logged PIC time while you were an FO? "well......uh.....I have the type rating....and uhh....the captain said it was my leg."

Most majors require that he/she who signs the manifest(PIC) of that flight is the PIC. Regardless of which type rating you hold, and who was sole manipulator.

If it sounds shady, most likely it is.

Ahhhh......Darkness......the tables have turned......do with him whatchu like.

MotherF'ers take one more step.....I'ma throw this motherF'er out the Mother F'ing window!

The first one had a crooked eye.

It has nothing to do with whether you have a type or not. The captain is always PIC whether or not he/she is the PF or PNF. (Sorry to all of those who have 500 hours and are typed in the CRJ...)

I suppose if the Captain became unconcious or dead then you could log it as PIC, but doing that would take a while to accumulate the "majic" 1000 hours. ;)

"Hey Captain, I baked you this cupcake. Go ahead, take a bite."

Sorry, reminded me of that South Park where Rob Reiner and his anti-tobacco crew try to kill Cartman after his "by the time you see this ad, I'll be dead" commercial.

Only if you send an ACARS messege to get a new release. :)

Exactly.

You can have a PIC type rating but unless you're flying with a check airman and meet certain qualifications and permissions, you may not log PIC during your legs.

Even though you have a type, you have not gone through captain IOE and accomplished a PIC route check by the FAA.

Plus, remember PIC is PIC. If you're a type rated FO and log PIC, the captain is still sole authority of the operation of the aircraft. A PIC doesn't have 49% of the vote, the SIC does! ;)
