We've been "discussing" over at the the FSA forum about direct track and ASA. Now that Skywest has bought out ASA, has Flight Safety approached Skywest about hiring ab initio/direct track pilots? Do you think Skywest would be interested in such a program since ASA has been involved in it for years? SkyWestChris, you out there? Heard anything?
 
Rumor has it that the two companies are going to stay seperate. Who knows for how long though. This could come to a head if ASA strikes.

My understanding is that SKYW does not like to see logbooks where people don't have a good bit of time and a good bit of real experience, not ab initio type training. That's my understanding
 
Chuck pretty much summed it up. Skywest once was part of something like that. It was over 5 years ago, but no longer.
 
I haven't been to SLC and talked to any muckety-mucks in about 6 months, so I'm waaaay out of the loop! I'll text Camielle on Monday and see what's on the plate for hiring this year.

Direct track programs? No. Skywest will not formally gauarantee interviews to anyone.
 
Rumor has it... There's to be a small newhire class in March, then possibly interviews April-May timeframe...

The 1000/100/100 minimums are hard minimums and will not be compromised.
Next time I see Camielle face-to-face I'll ask her about any changes to ASA hiring practices now that they're part of Skywest, Inc.
 
I hope for a new hire class...as long as we truly need them. I have a buddy in the pool and I was in the last class since we stopped hiring. I need some seniority here! :)

But with all the reserves in SLC, not sure if that class will happen?? Apparently a bunch of SLC FOs were wanting to transfer to places like DEN, but rumor has it, that is going to be put on hold if possible, since expectations are that the SLC lines might come back soon.

Who knows?!
 
One thing I have learned since becoming a regional airline pilot, that we are the last ones to ever know anything the company plans. I highly doubt any Skywest pilot knows anything about JA's plans with the FSA direct track program, but since they were not interested before the buyout I am assuming that there isnt any newfound interest since the purchase. ASA and Skywest so far are still being operated independently so if ASA still wants to hire out of the direct track program, I suspect they still could.
 
No one can say anything definite about when SKYW will be hiring again. I have talked to 10 different people including 2 chief pilots and I have received 10 different responses. But in the meantime, theres always GoJets....(joke)
