SkyWest orders four Bombardier Q400 NextGen turboprops

Interesting. Wonder if they will be flying them for the new United. Perhaps they are trying to be a bit more competitive with the big pinacolaba?

Bombardier Aerospace (TSX: BBD.B) says it has received firm orders for four CRJ700 NextGen regional jets from SkyWest Inc. in a transaction valued at US$148 million.
The 65 seater planes will be used by Utah-based SkyWest Airlines under the Delta Connection banner.
In a separate statement Tuesday, Bombardier’s transportation arm announced it has received orders for rolling stock from an unnamed customer at the end of December, in a deal valued at about euro362 million.

Wonder if they're gonna use those in SLC and pull back some of the XJ -900s to MSP, MEM, ATL, JFK, DTW or CVG. Pinnacle's a little gun shy on opening new bases, and it's expensive to either overnight a lot of crews or TDY them. They couldn't add more -900s, but there's a bit of a gap on the -700 level on seats. Not sure what the exact number is, but it's 4 less now.

4 Q400's is a program destined to die.

Not to call then hangar queens, but they take a LOT of mx to keep them happy. With 4 I would promise you at least 1 down at all times for mx... the other 3 on the way :)y

I do know that the news was wrong, and it's crj's... but my point remains, trying to start a program with 4 of them is only going to serve as warning to everybody else thinking a low number Q program will work :)

SKW Airlines is getting 8 additional CRJ700s to be flown for Delta, 4 from Bombardier and 4 from Horizon. They are also removing 6 CRJ200s from the Delta system and placing them elsewhere.

Hmm..which operation are these 6 coming out of - SkyWest Airlines or Atlantic Southeast?

Can you guys hurry up and repaint the former QX CRJs? Makes me sad to see them a the ATL stripped of their Horizon paint...

I think the actual breakdown is 8 aircraft to SkyWest (4 ex-QX and 4 new) and 4 ex-QX to ASA. That would add up to the 8 CRJ7s that Horizon wanted to get rid of.

The QX birds are in the process of getting repainted. One got pulled off line today.

The first one is leaving service shortly to be repainted, one in - one out. Then, all are getting interrior modifications towards the end of the month.

Where are you guys getting them painted? Don't say GLH. Those guys are terrible. Nothing like seeing bugs painted on the airplane on a walkaround. Landed in MEM after picking one up from the shop, and there was already paint peeling off from the edges of the leading edge of the wing.

Are they stripping out the HUD's and putting in ACARS? (I heard that was going to happen)

The ACARS hardware and software will be updated to work within our system. I have not heard anything specifically about the HUDs, but we have no use for them in our operation and would imagine they will be removed.
