just announced we will be opening a ATL base for lineholders on top of the previous announcement of it being just a reserve base. Oh Boy!

Yeah been seeing -900s in ALB a lot lately

Started out with a 737, MD-88 then an ASA -700, now a SKYWEST -900

DISGUSTING

screw "Regional Jets", screw 'whipsaws'...

No offense mark but he's right!

Listen guys, this whole "free market economy" thing that we keep talking about is CRAP. IT DOESN'T EXIST IN THE AIRLINE WORLD! What with all the other actors that are in play in this "free market" from unions to the government bailing out airlines to how corporations are simply treated in this country, the odds are stacked against us.

AND YOU GUYS ARE SAYING IT'S ALRIGHT.

IT'S NOT. Management doesn't fight clean and neither should we. We have no solidarity and we keep saying, "Oh it's alright, this will happen anyways."

What happened to busting some knee's when management stole our houses? What happened to people meaning more than a business?

There's a real good line from a band called "The Esoteric" about this one: "A capitalist by faith, a Christian by profit." I swear people worship Adam Smith more than they do Christ.

Pilots think they have big brass balls but as a group we really don't.

We need to stand up to management, tell them to meet us behind the schoolhouse and have fight for a fair contract.

But an ASA guy might.

Thats the business dude! Should the ASA guys hate the XJT guys because they took the LAX base or should the XJT guys be happy to see their company prosper? Maybe the XJT guys should hate the CHQ guys. How about the SKYW guys hating on the MAG guys?

That is business.

The airlines have an obligation to their shareholders to turn a profit. That profit is turned by picking up new routes, new bases, and the overall expansion of service and revenue.

No the ASA guys shouldn't hate the XJT guys.

It is time we as PROFESSIONALS raise the bar so we are all on the same page and we no longer have 'scabs', 'Gulfstreamers' and 'GoJetters'.

Look at the payrate Skywest is paying the -900 drivers. Look what they did to the Bro guys. Is that 'business' as you say? I say it is greed by management.

But an ASA guy might.

I suppose, in a sort of way that a Newark based XJT pilot could get pissed at a Colgan Q400 pilot for taking some of "their flying."

But the ASA guy and I can discuss it over some Chick-fil-A in the A concourse.

The base is going to have 34 pilots total.

taking some of "their flying."

No such thing as "their flying'.

Welcome the business 101 where companies actually compete on price, value, and service.

If company B couldn't cut it and airline X could, I'd expect company A to go with airline X.

Simple business principles.

The fact of the matter is people are upset because SKW is now expanding all over. Its not just a west coast thing anymore. With that come threats of other airlines and therefore a cry out for this under cutting to stop. Yes I would agree the 900 should have a different pay scale but in all honesty is that what we are complaining about is a payscale because I can name more then one airline where the 700's need diffrernt pay scales from the RJ200 or what not.

I'll be honest, if I was at ASA right now, I'd be tempted to vote in SkyWest payrates -20% to "regain" the lost flying, and then some.

Although that probably wouldn't help in the long run. SkyWest runs a tight ship and their airplanes are very clean. Obviously the long term plans are to have them operate all the Delta stuff.

Scratch the above. If I was at ASA right now, I'd use up all my sick time, then go out on LTD. If I couldn't strike I might as well cost the company as much money as possible. And I'd encourage others to do the same.

Ah, and before it was "just" a reserve base. You wait. ASA is being bled dry. I feel bad for 'em. However, I don't point fingers at SkyWest, but rather ASA management. Perhaps if they ran a better operation they might have been able to hold on to their flying. It sucks they are bringing the whole company down with them though, and are ruining (by lack of advancement) a lot of pilots careers. In reality, I'm (and a lot of others IMO) just jealous of SkyWest, and wish I had chosen to interview there. Ah well, shoulda woulda coulda!

You know why it's a race to the bottom? Because we justify this crap and think that it's ok.

Skywest bought another company and sunk it. Now THAT sounds ethical to me!

ASA was on the way down way before SkyWest bought them, but that could be argued depending on who you talk to.
