Does anyone know much about this airline? I feel like I've read on here in the past where they're scabs...and for $10 segments they have to be...

Skybus sucks.

If you go over to airliners.net, they are more than excited for this abortion of an airline. I don't understand what's so exciting about being treated like the lowest common denominator by the lowest paid crews in the history of commercial airlines.

The best thing for all of is if this crappy airline dies quickly and painfully so those employed can learn from their mistakes.

Modeled after Ryanair to be the cheapest airline in America should tell you something. FAs make $9 per hour and must sell items on board to earn money. All employees earn substandard wages including pilots. Why some would choose to subject themselves to this type environment is beyond me. Hopefully they will be put us out of our misery soon!

This place does nothing but drag down piloting standards everywhere. Those who choose to disregard this fact and work there are experiencing much disrespect and isolation from fellow pilots in the industry. I wouldn't call it career enhancing! You don't want to be one of these guys depending on a jumpseat as they will find them hard to get, especially from Velo.

:yeahthat: That sums it up nicely.

Yeah, what more can I say? Here's the best reasons for avoiding Skybus like the plague:

1. Bait and switch. They advertise places like SEA/YVR and you end up in BLI.
2. Connections suck. Most of their flights go to CMH, but you can't get any farther the same day.
3. Buy, BUY, BUY! F/As get minimum wage and work on commission selling you pillows, blankets, snacks and drinks. Wanna check a bag? That'll cost you. Wanna cup of coffee? That'll cost you. What's next? Pay toilets?
4. Do you really feel safe knowing the two clowns up front are working for 30% of the industry average pay for narrowbody pilots?

And for all you protoscab Skybus slime, Calcapt is right. Don't EVER presume to make the mistake that you are eligible for the professional courtesy of jumpseat privileges. Better rent an apartment in CMH. You certainly can't afford to buy a house. Losers.

I wouldn't say they're technically "scabs" since they're not flying struck work or crossing picket lines. I WOULD say they're dragging the rest of us down by flying that airplane for that wage, though.

"OMG! An Airbus! It's sooooo much cooler than the CRJ! I'd fly it for free almost!"

Seems SJS isn't just reserved for the new guys.....

Shouldn't we throw the pilots at Great Lakes in the same boat? They also work for poverty wages. As long as Great Lakes and Gulfstream have pilots, every other pilot (at least at the regional/up-start level) will suffer.

I believe Great Lakes pilots are unionized and represented by the Teamsters.

Doesn't great lakes only fly small 19-seat aircraft? There's a big difference in pay (and there should be) between a 19-seater TP and a 100+ seat 73 or Airbus.

There's also a big difference between being paid federal poverty level and an airline pilot actually being able to afford to eat without food stamps.

If, and this is a HUGE if, Skybus is successful and goes to an IPO and the stock does well the pilots who are currently at Skybus will be laughing all the way to the bank and will have made far more money than any of us. They will have significantly raised the compensation bar for pilots. There's more than one form of compensation.

Of course if Skybus goes under the opposite applies.

I'm not arguing that stock based compensation for pilots is a good idea, I'm just pointing out that is the compensation plan at Skybus and the hourly rate isn't the be all and end all.

Yeah, the first 100 pilots make out. The rest get to suck wind with crappy pay after the stock option plan is suspended a la jetBlue.

I'm not sure if investors would gleeefully sink money into an upstart LCC with what, $81/barrel oil?

Kind of like investing in a wooden dodo bird club in the late 1600's!

I had a Captain leave Comair for that operation. I knew all about it and asked him why he was leaving? He told me it was move for him and his family. He would become a Captain there and would be sort of based out of CMH(he lives about 1+ hour from there). He knew all about the perception of Skybus but couldn't care less. His family came first. I told him my opinion and he understood. He flat out told me he needed to take of his family. What do you guys have to say about that?

Poor excuse.

I guess it'll be ok to have a meth lab as long as I'm "taking care of my family".
