Skybus Coming Back?!?

and here's where our education skillz can come in handy!! :)

Unless he's got money to throw away, i'm pretty doubtful.

I was surprised to hear he may try to resurrect it. I don't see it happening either. $10million as a "seed" to attract other investors?? "Hey guys. I know our plan didn't work even when fuel prices were lower, but if you give me more money, I'm sure it will work?" I got some ocean front property in Arizona too.

"The founder of Skybus Airlines is working on a plan to revive the bankrupt carrier.
John Weikle said Monday night from Dayton, Ohio, that he had been working all weekend to build a team that could reorganize the airline and restore service"

"Weikle is working with Mark Sparling, his vice president for finance during the founding of Skybus. Sparling and Weikle left Skybus not long before it began operations because they disagreed with the board’s direction and its choice for chief executive officer, Bill Diffen-derffer."

I realize I'm new to aviation, but if Weikle founded the company, why did he not have a say so in the direction the business went? Wouldn't he have the final work? That doesn't make sense to me.

Maybe it will work if they propose a new business model that is actually reputable. I don't see any logic in returning to service with the failed model that they were using previous to going TU.

Edit: A union would probably be in their best interest as well.

You do know that Skybus wasn't his first thought at this correct?

Yeah, he wanted some start-up airline based in Dayton, Ohio in the late 1990's. The original airline was called Heartland Airlines and was going to operate the Boeing 717's. Heartland almost reached startup, but failed to raise the necessary capital and was abandoned.

If they go with the original business model again, a union would kill them quickly. That business model can't work with decent labor wages.

Right, so I guess that the only feasible option would be to incorporate a new business model and have a union.

New business model - Seat auctions. Show up at the gate on any given day their is Skybus Service. The gate agent is a quick talking auctioneer. The bids start at $5. Window seats $10. If the plane sells out above the overhead cost, the pilots and F/As split the profit. :)

Hmm, lemme cut you a big check so you can sell some of your tickets for $10 to capture market share and publicity and oil is hovering around $110/barrel... and the economy is in a recession. Oh, I'm sure there's some airline pilots that'll throw money at THAT turkey! :)

"Ahm puttin' mah money in Jack Utsick Innaprises!"
