SIU at Palomar college

Does anyone know of this program down in San Diego? My wife really wants to get out of Oregon after my flight training. So now I am actively looking for good schools to finish my four year up that will accept a decent amount of credits from the two year "flight" degree I am currently pursuing. I will also have all my ratings up through CFI, CFII and MEI so I am also trying to figure out a good place network for future job opportunities.

Having worked in higher education for a while prior to attempting a flying career my number 1 piece of advice would be to quadruple check the school you are attending is accredited. You can go to collegesource.org and check it out. I typed SIU in there and it looks like they are legit. Alot of very shady schools popped up overnight with the boom in internet education that would be happy to take your money and give you a worthless degree in return. Having lived in san diego my whole life I would say palomar is a pretty good community college, and there is some decent flight training at KCRQ. Lots of networking up at that airport with charters/corporate as well. FWIW i graduated from CSU San Marcos right down the road, check to see if they will accept any credits and if you can get in-state tuition its pretty reasonable on cost. I might suggest a non-aviation degree as it might give the perception of being a more well rounded individual to potential employers and not narrow your job focus in the future should flying not work out as planned.

SIU very legit. Its an Illinois state funded university. They just happen to do a lot of off campus programs, many associated with military bases around the country in addition to their main campus.

I sent him the email contact for the Aviation Chair. Same guy that was there when I went there decades ago....

I am actually planning to go there in the Spring. MtSac college and Palomar college both have the SIU courses so you can take them at either place. MtSac has way more students and the wait list is a little longer. The schedule is every other weekend usually from 9-3. I know many friends who are going there and they love it. The teachers are great and its a quick 16-month BA degree. Also if you have your private and instrument that counts for some college credits which is nice.

SIU in SAN is 'legit.' They send our best professor out there for the courses and it is still a pretty active subject around the campus here.

P.S. - our chair might not get back to you for a bit... He has been hospitalized for the last few days but getting better!

That is unfortunate, I wish for a full recovery for him. No hurry anyway, I am not even at the halfway point at my current school yet. I just like to plan ahead, if at all possible.

Yeah it seems like a good place to go to school. However, ERAU seemed great externally, until I absorbed all the information through various sites (mainly this one) which mostly disagreed with external views. That is why I was trying to get some info on here, I read alot about the main campus which seems great. I have not read much about the Palomar location though.
