Do decent paying fixed wing single-pilot jobs exist? Does anyone have information/experience with these? Thanks!

Come to Alaska!

I've always made halfway decent money up here, and have been single pilot most of my career. Medevac is good too for that.

I had a long term six figure single pilot job. It was good for a couple years, but by no means would I want to spend a career flying single pilot light jets. How's that aviation poem go, "when once one has tasted an APU, vacuum toilet and full galley, one never turns a back." Lol

Idk about y'all, but I've been flying at a corporate gig down in Northern Mexico flying to the US on a very regular basis, and though payment may seem average in US Dollar numbers, you'd be amazed how far it fares against the local currency.

But again, that's just me. The option of flying expat is there.

Take care

It's that whole personal safety issue for me however. I'm sure it's blown way out of proportion, but Mexico just doesn't seem safe...especially if you're running around in an expensive jet that screams "Ransom Money!"

Then there's the whole "Mexican Citizen requirement" for flying an X registered airplane, and making money at it.

If I flew out of Mexico and consistently ate my favorite food, you'd want me to be single pilot. In an airplane with the outflow valve up front.
Gully and I play a modified game of turtle. First one to don the mask loses.

One can find a decent paying Air Ambulance gig flying something like a King Air or a PC12 single pilot.

Blown out of proportion it is. Like I said pay is average in Dollars, but in Pesos it goes a long way, so basically just stay in an upper middle class / lower high neighborhood and keep stuff to yourself and you're fine. No need to show off. It's like driving a fancy car like a Ferrari in downtown Oakland, Detroit or east LA and not expect to be asking for for trouble.

AFAIK, you have to be a Mexican born citizen to fly as a commercial pilot down there.

Who siad anything about flying X tails? Yes, XA tails, which are part 121 and 135 are exclusive to mexican citizens and mexican licenses. XB's on the other hand you only need a DGAC private certificate that you can obtain regardless of nationality. But in reality, there's a TON of N 91 gigs - people who buy their planes, prefer FAA regulations over DGAC, leave their planes N tails (which are cheaper to operate) and hire people to fly them, fir they're too busy to actually learn themselves.

Quest Diagnostics is single pilot and pilots start out in the high 60s I believe to fly a PC-12. It really depends on what you consider decent paying as some freight companies are really hard up for pilots and Alpine's offering pretty good money for the 1900 as are some other outfits flying the Metroliner. There are also some high end aerial survey companies flying single and twin turboprops. You can expect to have a camera operator on board though and the schedules can sometimes leave a lot to be desired.

You can definitely make 6-figures flying medevac or flying it AK. Much of that is single pilot - though you earn it flying up north (unless you're flying medevac up north).

Single Pilot IFR in AK seems to pay somewhere around $70-$80k pretty much everywhere up here, unless there are some other serious perks that make anything less worth while. It's totally reasonable to make around $75k and fly two weeks on two weeks off in west Alaska. If you want to be home every night, then expect around $65k to $70k.

Flying medevac in Hawaii I made six figures, but I worked a lot extra and did other stuff for the company. If I would have just flew the min on the line I would have done around $85k or so.
