I'm seriously Looking into starting a rental business ,
currently looking at the first airplane , a Luscombe 11E 2008 with 284 TTSN
the business will mainly operate on Long island ( KFRG/KISP/KHVN)
depending on tie down costs ....ect
does anybody know anything about this kind of business ? any information would be greatly appreciated
Option 2 is , Leasing or financing a Cessna Caravan or a Kodiak Quest and start a small cargo business
im in between the two ...

How's the factory support on that Quartz Mountain Aerospace 11E? There's what, a dozen registered in the US?

Regarding option 2: unless you've identified a niche market that needs service (time critical, disposable, high value, etc.) I'd think you're a little late to the party to make a single plane freight operation work in the NYC area. Not to mention the time and money you're going to need to get a 135 certificate.

Have you done a market analysis? Do you have a business plan? Organized your funding/lined up investors?

Or is this a chapter 11 filing setup? That's the only logical reason I can think of doing what you've proposed so far.

The Quartz Mountain Aerospace Company went bankrupt in 2008/9 so there is no company support ( i just found that out through a phone call to the seller )
good point there ! but he was saying , everything is generic on these airplanes , except if you tear a wing , then insurance will have to total the plane ..
my other alternative is buying 2 or 3 cessna 150's and start the rental business , my school rents the 150 @ $125/hr . if my prices are competitive i may get some business .
as for the freight business , just done with a long research , and i think its a lost battle , I'm giving up on that .
so far , funds are available , just looking for the right idea !
thanks again Miller i appreciate your input :))

Surely you can't be serious?

I'm in the NYC area, and It's hard to rent a tailwheel Airplane around here. It would be good idea to look into. Also many flight schools are expensive
around here. If you could come up with a decent price you might have something here. But I'd imagine insurance to suck.

Holy cow! $125 for a 150! That's highway robbery! What does a 172 run?

The school near me rents the 152 at $75 an hour and the 172 at $100 an hour. Both are wet rates. And that's pretty standard over on the west coast north of California.

Yep , the cessna 152 is $125 an hour @KISP ( heritage flight )
the 172 is 215 bucks dual , assuming the instructor is $55 , the plane is 160 an hour .
their planes are fairly new and well equipped ( touch screen gamins and all)
basically i was looking to see if i could run a profitable rental business , start with two C150's , well equipped , for around 100 an hour
the tie downs at ISP are 140 bucks a month , fuel is 6.09 a gallon .
