Unfortunately it looks like Silver has filed chapter 11. I remember reading about an issue they had paying for gates at FLL a while back. Not surprising but still sucks.

They've struggled pretty steadily since even the B1900 days, and were regularly in arrears at the airport I was at. It's not for a lack of trying - they've experimented with a bunch of different route strategies.

I think much of their future will depend on whether UA launches a Florida hub as is regularly rumored. UA's Caribbean network out of IAD is bollocks, and Silver at least gives them access to the Bahamas.

Where would you base it, AA has MIA which is pretty unpleasant. FLL or MCO?

I wouldn't at all considering the Earth is reclaiming the entire state bit by bit, but if I had to choose ...

TPA. They already have an MRO facility and 737 crew base. Lufthansa and Copa are well established there, and when I was at TPA, UA was the carrier anticipated to take over the new Terminal D opening in a few years, which will also be the new FIS location. UA doesn't need to do TATL from there, just some Caribbean and Latin routes the guppy can handle most of. Continue doing deep South America from IAH.

I don't see any Florida market being a major hub for them, though. It would almost work better as a "focus city" akin to what DL was doing before the Pandemic.

I’ve been to TPA, thanks BA. Their only LGW US flight I think
