sign off for writtens?

I would like to take my private written in the next couple of weeks but since I don't currently have an instructor how do I go about getting the signoff in my logbook so I can take it?

Any help?

Thanks

couple ways to go about it.

1) get some software that like gliem or others that will let you take practice tests and get a signoff through them (the software i used for my private made me take 5 tests in 'signoff' mode and score better than 90, then i got a sheet with an endorsement i could print out)

2) go down to a local FBO and ask an instructor there what he needs to sign you off. A few i've talked with want to see a couple practice test results showing you can score above 90 to get thier signature.

Thanks,

Do you know how much the price of that Gleim software is? Can you get that at any pilot shop usually?

Most pilot shops have them (or you can order them over the web), and I think they're anywhere from $30-50. If the CFI is gonna charge you for the time to sign-off, I'd get the software. Same price essentially, and you may be able to re-sell it to someone else. Don't quote me on that. I haven't used the software before, only the books.

I guess the Gleim is how most people going to ATP get their writtens taken care of before going. I think right now my only problem is getting them done. I hear you need to have them done before you go and my only worry is showing up and not having enough of the writtens finished. I guess if you go through the private course in Jax you should have plenty of time to study for them?

Everyone says get as many of the writtens passed as you can but if you are just doing the writtens and not actually flying and applying it to anything are you learning the material or just getting it out of the way?

getting the writtens done before you show up is certainly a good idea, but its not required. I showed up in dallas with none of them done and did the instruments, commerciall and foi in the first 2 1/2 weeks of the program. The requirement is that you have them all done before you can start the XC phase.

The only required written that needs to be done before attending ATP is the Private written.

For the ACPP part it is recomended but not required. (From what others have said it makes your ACPP program more enjoyable.)

Yeah, I decided I would fly down to Phoenix and check out that location today. Found out alot of great info from the instructor and student I talked to there. I really like ATP! Looks like a solid program all the way around. Seems they feel that the gleim is the best way to get the writtens done.

I guess the thing that stuck out most is how nice their "older" seminoles and 172s are. For 20+ year old planes they are in great condition from what I saw.

Only thing about PHX is it may be a bit too hot for me down there. Gotta check out Jax before I make my final decision though. I think if I could get the instrument and maybe the commercial done I should be in good shape before I go. I am glad to see that people can start the program without having any of it done though. I would rather learn from the flying than have to worry about a score on a test!
