Sick of drones? Move to Canada!

Looks like Transport Canada is getting sick of close calls and lack of regulation. They're proposing some changes to the CARs about drones.

In May, Transport Canada announced a set of proposals for new regulations for drones under 25 kg...

...Certain drones — the ones deemed more capable of causing damage to people and property, for example — will have to be registered by serial number, and people will have to get safety training and apply for pilot permits to operate them.

If you look at the file located at this link, TC is looking to categorize drones into three categories, and impose licensing, permits, and strict rules based off of size and impact energy. Whats neat here is you now must operate the drone through line of sight, regardless if there is a camera on board or not. Looks like they're also lowering the max alt to 300ft.

Win.

I've seen enough drones in my 40 days in country to last me a lifetime. They're like a swarm of angry bees.
Apples and oranges.

When they are used in conjunction with fixed/rotary wing assists they provide invaluable information.
In other words, we coordinate the Schit out of the two.

Something that Joe Public doesn't do.

I was chilling in the cabin on the commute to Detroit a few weeks ago.

This guy turns around and asks me what I thought about UAV's in the national aerospace system and I kind of gave him the "Meh, not too fond of more traffic in the airspace system" and then he launches into a tirade about the stigma of UAV's and how he was just as capable of operating a UAV than I was as a pilot flying a "full scale" airplane.

Yowza. Hoooooooo K…. Not quite sure what he expected me to say but I could start "Elysium" fast enough on my ipad.

I wonder what he meant by "just as capable?" I doubt he means "just as knowledgeable about airspace or FARs or arrival procedures."

I bet he's very capable of effing up a perfectly good airplane.

Somehow I read the thread title as "Sick Drones? Move to Canada", and thought maybe that drones there had access to free nationalized health care in Canada or something.

That's kind of cool. But if a couple northern rednecks can figure out how to put roman candles on a drone and hit their friends, it doesn't take a giant leap to take it a whole lot further.

"Sorry I flew my drone in to your CRJ, bud."

"Nah buddy, Im sorry I flew my CRJ into your drone. Thanks for the apology though."

I'm not you're buddy, pal!
