‘Shoestring staffing’ at radar facility closes busy airspace

This sounds pretty serious for such a brief article. Just curious if there's anything that could/should be done on the citizen level (i.e., write to representative/congressmen urging action, etc.). Any suggestions? I know you NE controllers work your tails off, especially at the time mentioned.

I was told at my ZNY interview that they had reached their hiring goals for 2009 and would not take on any new trainees until October. I was also told that they were not at their full authorized staffing. I'm not going to post the numbers here, send me a PM if you want to know.

As far as geoprefs go, it might be wise for the PUBNAT7 ppl to choose Virginia (the location of ZDC).
