I actually know plenty of guys making $100,000+ flying airplanes with only a HS diploma. Not inaccurate at all!

Pretty typical of Yahoo articles there might be some truth but by and large they are misleading at best. Although I do know a guy I used to work with as a mechanic at NWA he became a pilot at NWA and is now a Delta MD-88 Capt and does not have a college degree. Can be done but for the most part unless you want to stay at the regional level as a pilot better get that degree..

Yes but exactly how many of them are actually at a major? That median would shift quite a bit if they only took a sample of HS only peeps as most would likely max out at regional captain pay.

What the article also fails to mention is that flight school can cost just at much if not more than a 4 year degree.

We all know, however, that not all jobs that pay $100k+ are major airlines. While someone trying to get on at a Legacy without a degree would (right now) probably not get a call, there are a slew of other options. It's best to get the degree of course, but most of the guys I know making that kind of change without a degree are left seat at a certain ACMI carrier I no longer work for.

I think there is a lot of truth to this, really. I'd have to assume the majority of the pilots without degrees end up lifers at one company(likely freight, 135, or a regional), and therefor top out. So, as a whole, they probably average on the higher end of the pay scale.
