School Assistance

Hello All,

I've researched many dispatcher schools and have decided to attend Sheffield later in the summer. All the schools I've researched states that they provide job placement assistance after graduation. My question is how much assistance does a dispatcher school provide after one graduates with there FAA certification?

There are some companies that will only post an opening at certain schools. Thus you wouldn't see the job opening on the internet.

Also if you perform well in class, have a good attitude and can help other students, they may give a recommendation.

As I recall, Sheffield will allow you to re-attend any portion for free if you need that.

Remember, no matter what career but especially aviation, your name will get known along with the reputation that you bring. The latter will help or hurt you more than your ability.

I agree, your reputation follows you. The dispatch field is very small.

Sheffield is a great school. The school has a great reputation in the industry, and putting Sheffield on a resume, will certainly be an advantage.

I received zero assistance with job placement. This was back in the 33.6 modem days, and it was quicker to just send a cover letter and resume in the mail. Forget whether or not the company had any openings. Looking back on it, I'm amazed I found a job as quickly as I did.

Today, it is probably easier and more effective to compile a list of airline websites, and check those every couple of days, along with Indeed.com

I used this, worked quite well.

This is what I did when I was trolling for jobs. Put the employment websites in my smart phone and any time I get a few minutes, I would just rifle through the list and see what was new. Indeed is pretty good too, but with those that are "time sensitive" it can take a few hours for Indeed to pick up on the new posting and list it there.

I also found a crap-ton of sideband interference using Indeed. I can't tell you how many listings for Military Police or ATC sim operators or forestry police I had to wade through on my way to finding dispatch listings.

Congrats on deciding to attend Sheffield; it's a excellent school. I got my first dispatch job from a job listing on Sheffield's website
