Scenic Airlines?

Just got called for interview with Scenic, and I wanted to get as much information about what to prepare for. Also, if anyone here is with the company, how are things over there? Pay? QOL? Thanks

I worked there little over a year ago (for about a year was - pretty close to upgrade when I left). I left for a couple reasons which are kind of irrelevant to someone getting hired now.

Here's the deal. They've been bought by Pappillion Helicopters (who also bought Grand Canyon Airlines about a year ago). They are now 135 instead of 121 (this just happened within the alst few weeks). On January 1, 2008 the "merge" will happen and all pilots will presumably fly both "Scenic" and "GCA" aircraft as well as a pay cut for "Scenic" pilots (GCA is paid less and I don't see them raising the pay to YR levels). They now operate both "sides" out of the same trailer - yes, trailer - in Boulder City and only fly to two places The South Rim of the Canyon (KGCN) and the West Rim. GCA aircraft do the black routes out of GCN and take people to Page from there the greenie weenies take people out to Monument (which is now completely paved).

I left because of all the things outlined above - these things were "on the table" at thattime and they also dropped the 1900 so I decided to move on. Also my wife got a job back in Phoenix.

Now, having said all this (morale at Scenic is in the crapper right now) I still don't think it's a bad place to go. You'll be getting, essentially, scheduled, crew, turbine experience in some pretty extreme weather/operating conditions (yes you got some pretty nasty IFR in the winter and it's all hand flown). Knowing what they are (at this point) and being there already and having it change (like me) are two different animals.

What will happen Jan 1? Who knows. But, flying the Canyon is a tradition that not to many people get to experience and you'll be absoloutely shocked when you start flying at the regionals and majors at how many Scenic/GCA/King/Vision pilots you'll run across.

The only thing that really sucks about it is leaving before you upgrade. Only because if you do you're stuck on "first year pay" for basically two years.

pilot, thanks for the info! Really helps. How is the interview?? Anything I should really study up on? Thanks again!

It was harder than the interview for my current airline. But it was also my first "airline" interview. Point is, it is/was a "real" interview. Take it seriously, study and you'll do fine.

Sounds good. This is actually my first "airline" interview so im trying to get a feel for everything. I'm studying the ATP test prep. How is the sim evaluation?

330TT/35 multi. I just put in an application for the heck of it, and got an email asking me to come out. I know i'm low time, but I have been trying to figure out how to pay for my CFI, and even debated getting a loan for it, and this came along so i'm going to give it a shot :)

Good luck.

But, yeah there's no pilot shortage.

I interviewed with 850TT/500 Multi, waited in the pool for five months and started YR with 1,000+TT/600 Multi.

How times have changed (and only in two years ....)

Pilot shortage? Who said anything about a pilot shortage? Heck we've got pilots knockin' down our doors to come fly for us! We're turning them away in droves?

*wakes up*

Yeah the pilot shortage is busting our balls out here.

Wow.. pretty interesting stuff. What were you doing while you were still in the pool? I was surprised that they even emailed me back, surely didn't expect that. Thanks for the info so far.
