Saw a DC 3 flying today!

I had just departed Aurora State airport (KUAO), just south of Portland, Oregon, and was heading west at 1700. On the CTAF I hear someone with a call-sign of "Douglas 3006" announce that he's five miles west of the airport. So I'm looking and I spot him about three miles in front of me at my 1 O'clock at my altitude, turning to his left. I turn to my left to give some more space between us and he flies on by. That's when I notice how shinny he his and that he's rather big and isn't that a tail wheel? Boy those are some square windows. Hey! That's a DC3!!! Sweet! I'd never seen one in flight. I wish I'd brought my camera.

Here's a pic of it on the ground.

There is some majestic beauty built in to those classic planes. Like the curves on a constellation

Here's another cool one for you. Unfortunately, the dumbass photographer managed to make it look like the plane got quadruple engine failure!:banghead:

i actually fueled that plane a few years ago...

it belongs to this guy: DC3 Entertainment

the inside is totally refurbished wish vintage looking seats. it even has a full entertainment system with flat screens.

Lyndale Island Aviation Center > From the Landing Gear Up > Interviews & Articles Classic

the guy who owns it flies around in an embraer legacy "legacy 3005". this is his toy that meets him in different cities for "after dinner cruises".

it has to be one of the best dc3s in the world.

It's too clean to be a DC-3. I think I would be afraid to fly it!!!!!!

:yeahthat:

Where are all of those classic oil and grease streaks runnin' down the sides of the cowling. Where are all of the oil puddles under that thing. That can't be a DC-3;)

I will see if I can find some old pics. of the 3's and Connie's my dad flew for North Central. Hope I can find them. If I do I will post!

Wow! Thanks for the links! That is one beautiful airplane!

I'll take my camera tomorrow and get DC6 pictures. I've been meaning to get pictures at work and this thread sort of inspired me.

I was in the pattern with a DC3 today at Catalina Island. Cool airport, kinda reminds me of Colorado a bit. Not sure why my student had to pay $20 to land there though. Doesn't the state fund that place?

Maybe I should hang out there and collect landing fees too?

Im volunteering at an air museum here in Florida and right now am working on a C-47 skytrain. To be able to work on that plane is awesome! An a/c with that much history is pretty amazing to be around
