Hi guys,

Looking for official guidance on controlling (not required) RVRs for <1200 RVR CAT II approaches. I've seen some sources say that both touchdown and midpoint are controlling for these, but can't find any official guidance.

Any takers? Thanks!

Thanks DE - tons of guidance concerning airport sensor requirements, but most of the pilot information stops at 1200RVR.

Not sure if this helps and I could be dead wrong but when I went through recurrent I just remember 2 are required and all three r controlling ...

Thanks highalt - was that references specifically for SA CAT II or just for low visibility departures?

Wouldn't that information possibly be company specific depending on Ops specs? I'd look there, because that's where the authorization to do Cat II is going to be anyways. I bet it has the requirements listed.

Absolutely - additional controlling requirements will be company-specific. That being said, I'm looking for the raw requirements (eg, CAT IIIC has multiple controlling RVRs and 8400.13D details this and CAT II approaches above 1200RVR).

If a company decides to add to this (which some do), they will do as you said. Part of my job is assisting companies with implementation, so I'm looking for the raw guidance.

It would be part of OpSpec C059. Only TDZ RVR is controlling for us. HIRL, TDZ and CL are required for us..

We're actually required to autoland <1200 RVR Cat II/III. Do you guys have a HUD installed?

Good question:

Some will be HUD equipped, enabling the 300m RVR SA approach.

Most will have HUD + EVS, which reduces the need for CAT II domestically... As long as LED approach lights are supplemented with some kind of EVS functionality!
