Runway incursion at Boston Logan

"Air traffic controllers told United Airlines flight 1946 at least five times to “hold short of runway 27.”

The pilot of the United flight responded, “We’re short.”

As a precaution, air traffic controllers told the approaching Jet Blue flight to execute a “go around,” according to the airport spokeswoman, who added that the United jet never actually reached the runway."

How about this corporate drivel:

“A United Airlines spokesman said the pilot of the Boeing 737 stopped the aircraft to avoid snow on the tarmac, and the Jet Blue flight’s execution of a “go around” was “completely unrelated” and “coincidental.””

I mean, based on all of that it seems like nothing at all happened?

Sounds like the issue was UA not using proper phraseology and if the article is correct lack of a flight number in his radio call. Had there been an accident “We’re Short” would have ment nothing.

This may have been a case of nothing, but BOS is a horrible airport design. It's an accident waiting to happen. Departing 27, you have to cross three runways, two of which they are landing on. After landing there are multiple runway crossings with takeoffs runways. It's a cluster. Compared to places like DTW where (usual flow/operation) landing aircraft do not have to cross takeoff runways and vice versa. Even ATL when you land that and take that taxi loop on the north side. ORD is switcing too with after landing east, taxiway taxi back, and cross behind the departure intersection of a takeoff runway.

In reading the narrative, it sort of sounds to me like the UAL guys had every intention of stopping, but since there was no hold short line painted on the asphalt they stopped a little too far forward and set off all the ASDE-X bells and whistles.
