Rumor mill: Future of Expressjet?

Within about a 2 week span, I've heard a Compass crew and a Skywest crew both mention that Expressjet is not long for this world. Specifics are hard to find at this point, but it sounds like the Expressjet operation is a cash drain on Skywest. Just curious to know if anyone has heard similar and what this means, potentially. Is Skywest just going to sell the whole operation or is something else in the works that could spell the end of the Expressjet name?

I wouldnt even consider either of those second hand rumors. I think skywest pilots want them gone though...I wouldnt doubt that.

It's all hearsay. We lose millions, but what are they going to do about it? They can't just have XJT go bankrupt without dragging down the whole place.

There's been a number of management changes here lately. There's been a few SkyWest people taking over management positions just recently. I could maybe buy that they're trying to fix this place a little to sell. Just maybe.

I've been flying the line at SkyWest for 3 years, and I have NEVER heard another pilot I work with wish for ExpressJet to go away. A lot of us have friends there, came from there, or have some type of connection with those folks. I wish them nothing but the best, and I absolutely have not heard any substantive rumor about them going away.

I do wonder about some of the very few people at ExpressJet that seem to constantly spread rumors about SkyWest crews wishing ill will to them. If you're that unhappy with yourself, please look towards changing your attitude and outlook on life.

XJT isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Way too big an operation. Any drawdown would take years.

Yes.

But, for anyone keeping score - just evaluate upcoming contract expiration if new agreements are not reached.

But the good news for inc. is that covering the flying isn't their problem, that is major partners problem.
IMO, They' ve bid flying at a loss to keep the people and planes around, because inc made 50 million meaning if xjet turns profitable, that could easily double their money.

So I think inc is wagering to win a standoff. At some point express jet is going to bid at a profit when they think they can win, at that point it will either be profit or wind down the ops.

Meh. No ill will towards the pilots of the other airline here.

I know why Inc. purchased ASA/XJT; it was a deal that made sense at the time. It is no longer a deal that makes sense. As Darth Vader would put it, "I am altering the deal. Pray that I do not alter it further." (News: it will be altered further.)

Make no mistake, Inc. is going to win—indeed, they're winning now and they will continue to win—and my armchair "evil master plan" calls for ExpressJet to be extinct not later than 2020.

Sad, but that's how I think it's going to shake out. Conduct yourselves accordingly.

It seems to me that the trend (in general) of the regionals that appear to be threatened into bankruptcy/extinction are the ones with 50 seaters. Is this an accurate assumption and does anyone think ExpressJet will get more 700/900s or some of American's 175s?
