Rough Landing At CVG

A passenger tells us:
"Last night we had a really rough landing at Greater Cinci N KY airport. We came in on Delta #2345 from Las Vegas, and we “landed” around 7:15PM. The wind shear was terrible and the pilot did a remarkable job getting us down, but we hit VERY, VERY HARD on the runway and a large part of the plane in the cabin came down on people, another section across from me showed loosened as well. This pic shows the large metal section that fell down on passengers a couple rows behind me – it is the entire compartment that has the oxygen masks, air and lights, etc. It did not seem that anyone was hurt. The pilots deserve some “props”, but it makes me wonder if we should have been trying to land…"
Here's a photo of the damage

Its weather conditions like the one this crew encountered that really makes me feel like I earned my pay for the past 8 months. Especially when the gust catches you in the flare. Glad everyone was ok.

I love it when pax try and micro manage and "monday morning quarterback" something that they have little to zero knowledge of.

I've never thought "That hernia surgery was good, but I have to wonder why the doctor went with the open repair method and not the laparoscopic repair method"

Ours do that when we have greasers...

Yup...we had a light cover fall off and hit a passenger in the head the other day.

Pretty nasty winds all over the place this past week. My first leg back from vacation involved landing in winds gusting to 48 in DAY.

Monday was fun- Highest I remember was gusting 38 in BUF.
A couple weeks ago we had the same, a light cover fall off.

Back in the ol skool cjc days I flew a saab from CRW to PIT to CMH one day and oddly enough we had a passenger that rode with us all the way to CMH. On the first leg the PSU fell and hit her in the face. On the second leg the PSU again fell and hit her in the face. Gotta love top notch CJC "barely fixed" maintenance!!

on another note, why she accepted the same seat twice is beyond me.

That happened when I rode on a Pinnacolaba CRJ2 once...on takeoff. TLs were advanced and all of a sudden the cove light trim piece falls into my lap. "Awesome."

I find the ERJ light lenses in the seatback pockets all the time. It has to inspire confidence in the passengers when they go to adjust the light and it comes off in their hand. ;)

Well sure, why should anyone besides the flight crew question if a landing at that airport was the best choice? It not like part of the stupid airplane ended up in their stupid laps because of a stupid landing or anything.

In cases such as this, it seems for every passenger questioning the crew's decision to execute the landing, there is another passenger pleased they didn't divert. And I bet they're all happy they weren't up front making decisions. I suppose it balances out in the end.

I joked about having a greaser and a panel falling down, and then it happened yesterday haha. I couldn't get a good picture...

Apparently the passenger who thought that pilots "try" to land has never talked to a "Jedi Master".

Back in my SE AK days I was landing 26 at HNS and it was one of those moments where you're dealing with a bit of a headwind that just stops right when you're about 5 feet over the runway. It was without a doubt the hardest landing I ever had in the PA32. Get down to the taxiway, pull off, take my headset off while we're taxiing into our spot and said to my 4 pax: "Man, that was embarassing...." Got a couple laughs out of that one. I guess a little self deprecating humor can go a long way.
