Rotator Cuff Surgery

I had surgery on my right shoulder back in May. I grounded myself while my arm was in a sling, but once I started driving, I started flying again.

Now I'm wondering -- did I need a note from the surgeon saying I could return to flying? I did get a return to work authorization from him, so maybe that will do?

You did the correct thing. When one is unable to safely operate an aircraft, they should not fly. Now you just need to report it on your next flight physical and the AME will take care of the documentation for the FAA. This doesn't require anything from you, just a good shoulder exam from the AME.:)

Tony from experience keep excercising that shoulder in some form. It will stiffen up if you dont. Its no fun to try to loosen it back up.
