Rotary vs. Fixed Wing

Just a thought,
How does being a helicopter pilot compare to fixed wing? By learning how to fly fixed wing air craft I'd definately have more job opportunities, but how much helicopter pilots make? Are the training and minimum hour requirement different from those of Fixed Wing? How much more expensive is Helicopter training from Fixed Wing?

Comparing helo jobs to airplane jobs is akin to comparing apples to oranges. Each has its unique pros and cons and comes with its own particular set of challenges. The training and minimum hour requirements for helos are different than those for airplanes. Take a quick glance through Part 61 for the details. Helicopter training is significantly more expensive than airplane training due to the increased operating costs and inflated insurance premiums paid by training providers. Price will also depend upon the type of equipment used, the type and level of training sought, and geographical location.

If this is something you're seriously considering then go forth and do some research. Poke around on the Vertical Reference Forums, Helicopter Salaries, and do some comparison shopping for flight training through Google. If you've got some specific questions after all of that then please post them and I'm sure the savvy rotorheads here will either have an answer or be able to point you in the right direction.
